This is a great string trimmer. I like that you don't have mix oil and gas. This a very strong machine as I have purchased an edger and cultivator as add ons. The balance is different for those of you switching from a two cycle trimmer. The 4 cycle has a larger engine and takes a few minutes to get used to. I am very pleased with the ease of starting. This machine is also equipped to use the Easy Start for those that do not like to pull start. Finally, attachment change outs are very simple and take seconds. You can switch from trimming to other tasks with ease.

This trimmer comes with all the worst characteristics of trimmers. The line breaks about every 10-50 feet. Then, the tabs on the cover don't push in enough, so you can't get the cap off without prying it with a screw driver. When you do get the cap off, the twine unravels, requiring a complete rewrap. Oh, and while you're trying to rewrap it, you'll figure out that the instructions say you have to have the cap on, but that doing it that way causes the twine to slip out of inside divider, so it won't thread correctly. This trimmer turns a 15 minute job into a 45 minute job which requires multiple stops, and extra tools. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
The bump head grommets failed in first hour or so . Replaced head. The lower transfer case gears stripped within another 6-8 hours use.
No replacement part or lower trim shaft assembly available. Have used an electric string trimmer in same area for years with no trouble.
The engine starts remarkably easily.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
I gave 3 of the 4 rating categories a "good" rating. It's a fairly powerful trimmer for its size. It was very easy to crank. Changing the attachments takes seconds.
I really liked this trimmer, but it just died on me. The trimmer is 7 years old, but I only used it 4 to 5 times a year (I hate to trim grass); I'd estimate 30 hours of use at most. I changed the oil regularly, checked it regularly, and otherwise maintained the engine properly. The engine still looks practically brand new. However, the cylinder lost compression for some reason recently. It died in the middle of trimming the grass one day and I thought it had simply run out of gas. Upon trying to restart it with a fresh tank of gas, it wouldn't stay running. After checking a lot of things, I found the problem with the cylinder. It does not build up much compression at all. With the oil cover off and the crank assembly, cylinder, and piston visible, I can hear air escaping if I slowly pull on the starting cord. Completely unacceptable for an engine still so young and with little use.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Reduce string breaks & jams by adding a few drops of oil to the line as you install it. Keep the spool well oiled. This worked great for me.
Oil the winding nut & spool.
Use the JumpStart if possible. Prevents cord breaks and super easy to start.
Don't overfill engine oil. NEVER!
Use only fresh gasoline.
Always use .095 diameter line.
Keep the spark plug gap clean.
Always wash down trimmer after use to keep it clean and smooth running.
Read the online user manual or the printer copy you received when you bought the machine.
If the shield or other parts ever loosen, Tighten Immediately. Stay safe.
Treat this fine tool with respect and it will do a great job for a long time.
PS...I do not work for Troy-Bilt.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
This isn't the quality that Troy-Bilt was once known for, for sure. New out of the box it wouldn't run. No carburetor adjustments means it either runs, or it doesn't. Mine didn't. Bought their 2-stroke model instead.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
The shaft broke on both one this year and the other one last week it is in the shop now. Troy Bilt is not like it use to be. The mower I have will start, but then it will go dead and take more pulls to start again.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
I have had my trimmer for 5 years now. I did buy the EZ start starter for mine and would not trade for anything.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
In the last six years or so, I've had this weed eater in the shop at least six times. it is extremely hard to start and I can't even get one season out of it without having to pay my local lawn mower shop to fix something on it. It is broken again. The string slips when trying to start it so this time, I'm going to buy a different trimmer. I won't be going with Troy-Built any longer.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
very easy to use. Like quick start feature. Only complaint is when using with sholder strap, trimmer is a little off center with cutting head requirimg considerable force to keep level. All things considered, a very nice peice of equipment.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Difficult to start and keep running, it takes about 8 minutes to warm up and not stall. But the real problem is with the string head. Mine keeps breaking off inside the housing which is a time killer. I have to open the housing and restring it each time. Now, the housing is getting so damaged (after only one season) that I need tools to released the indent latches. After the screwdriver slipped and stabbed me, I almost took a crowbar to the whole trimmer. I thought Troy-built was a top brand, but this product is aweful.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Changing line is very time consuming and labor intensive; starting engine is difficult; could not find idle screw
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
First off-- I have the TB575EC curved shaft trimmer which the web site shows only the straight shaft . I had to replace the fuel primer bulb and the fuel lines due to not preparing for winter storage . After replacing the fuel lines and primer bulb I could not get the unit to prime as designed . Yeah --I had the lines switched . Anyway before I determined that to be the problem I took the carburetor apart and checked it out . While doing that I tried removing the primer to carburetor gasket ( Not the gasket noted as # 22 ) I damaged the gasket . I looked for the part but since it is part of the carburetor it is not sold as a primer housing gasket but you have to buy the whole carburetor as a single unit . The cost difference is probably about 20 dollars plus shipping & handling . But being stupid does have it's cost so I gotta pay . Other than that I have a great product . Easy start - I bought both the rechargeable and the electric starter for my unit . Works great .
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
OK. I bought the TB575 EC Weed Eater/ Trimmer back in 2010, used it a few times then moved to an apartment where I didn't need it anymore. I put it up in storage and forgot about it. Well, after moving in with my lovely girlfriend, I got it out of storage today, May 28th, 2015. It had the same oil and little bit of E87 gas in it from 2010. I primed it, put the choke on, and pulled the cord twice and it cranked up without missing a beat. I'm not going to lie; I almost urinated in my pants!!! I started weed eating my whole yard I was so happy... forgetting that I had a lawn mower... It still works like a charm like when I first bought it. I would recommend the 4 stroke TB575 EC to anyone who is looking for a weed eater that is awesome!!!
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Easy to start (especially with the JumpStart) easy to use. Durable.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
I purchased the TB575 and brought it home. The pull rope stuck from the very first pull. I returned it for a simple exchange and brought the 2nd one home. It lasted for 3 mowing sessions before it did the same thing. I don't think I will go for a third one until Troy Built decides to confront the issues at hand and fix their problems.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Plenty of power and very reliable for the 3 years I've owned it. The key to reliable starting and long storage is to use a very good fuel - NOT automobile gasoline. I've used aviation fuel (100 LL) and white gas (Coleman Fuel) and have never had the slightest problem starting. You still have to follow the directions - prime, choke, pull 5 times, 1/2 prime, then start. I have the trimmer, edger, chain saw, and blower attachments - really worthwhile. It is like having 4 different machines for the maintenance of one (plus much less space and $.) Electrics don't have the power or portability.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Piece of garbage!! I have owned this trimmer for 2 seasons and except for the first time out of the box, found it difficult to start. String is awkward to load and breaks frequently. Knob is impossible to turn to load string. I'm cutting the grass for the third time this season and have yet to be able to get the trimmer started. When searching for the owners manual on this site I get the 'unable to find' model number message. Do not recommend - do not buy this product!!
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Never starts well. Always takes a lot of work. I have a Troy built walk behind mower that always works great. But you can keep your trimmer.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
We bought the trimmer got it home and put it together. Everything fit per the directions. I filled up the crankcase with the supplied oil put in the gas and it started on the second pull. It has plenty of power and runs well. The string occaisionally gets fouled but it is a simple task to untangle it and get going again. I am looking forward to trying some of the attachments that you can use with the powerhead. It they work as well as the trimmer I will be very satisfied.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Purchased because of the 4 cycle. Big mistake. Hard to start, lacks the power of a 2 cycle. The engine blew up after 1 season. Much happier with the Echo I bought.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
This piece of garbage required a carburetor rebuild to make it through ONE season! After storage in the shed over the winter, it needs ANOTHER rebuild because the carb is sucking air with a full fuel tank. Added to the issues with it failing to start, the attachment between the motor and the shaft is flimsy. I can't help but wonder how long before I'm holding a running motor at the end of the pull rope in one hand and the shaft in the other. And when I tried to go on the website to look for support, you told me repeatedly that THIS VERY MODEL does not exist even though I typed it in exactly as shown on the trimmer and on the website.

I bought this 2 yr ago and it ran fine, although, ihad to replace the lower head as it is cheaply made and bought a 2nd just incase we had to replace in again. Now this year it will start just not run at full thottle. I would not buy this same trimmer as a replacement.
Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
Absolutely awful cutter head design. String cuts off before spool empty and have to take it apart again and again. Went to buy a good after market head and cannot figure out how to get old head off without a sledge hammer. Do not buy this product.

Comments about Troy-Bilt® 4 Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer (TB575EC):
This thing is a piece of junk, the spring assist makes it harder to start, the clutch slips in tall grass, it is very hard to start, and it is very heavy. After using a shindiawa, echo, and a stihl, I never use a troybilt again.
