I installed mine on a shepherds hook and used either cooking oil or baby oil what ever is the cheapest and grease the pole, the squirrels can't get to it.

My squirrels love using the metal grid to hang from while they dig the bird seed out of the feeding ports. This didn't stump my aquirrels one bit.
