Comments about Charbroil(r) Santa Fe Charcoal Grill (12301569):
I was worried when I got the box as it was so small however once I lifted up the package I knew it was packed tight with metal! It was cleverly packaged with the box only as big as the bottom half of the unit, and everything else was packed inside of that. It was kind of a pain to extract everything but this is a one-time thing. [...]At about 90 minutes, assembling everything took a bit longer than expected as the ONLY thing pre-assembled was the door to the bottom unit however the instructions were complete and easy to understand and I actually had fun building it!When the pieces were separate, they all seemed to be a bit on the flimsy side but once fully assembled everything seems rock solid. Even the lid has no 'flimsiness' or 'wobble' to it whatsoever and that is one thing I absolutely hate about almost all charcoal grills (and most gas grills as well!) The model I got came with metal side shelves and a metal spring-type handle (instead of wood like the picture represents) but that's OK! I like the metal better anyway.I've only had the chance to use it once so far (due to crazy rain for the last two weeks) but my pork steaks (St. Louis thing), my in-husk corn-on-the-cob, my grilled baked potatoes, and my shrimp-ka-bobs were a huge success! I was surprised with how easy it was to light, and how evenly it cooked! The grilling area has a non-stick coating that didn't even flinch at my metal spatula but we'll see how long that lasts. There were a few small 'quality' issues I would like to see improved.. for example there is nothing to keep the wheels from rubbing against the grill's legs (but then again how much do you plan on rolling it around?) Some of the hardware may need re-tightening every once in a while. The holes that the adjustable charcoal tray hangers sit on just barely line up so I may have to drill them open just a tad bit more in the near future but really.. that's nitpicking things. For the price I can't ask for a better setup and I can't wait to use this thing several times a week this summer!**NOTE: Some of the metal pieces have an oily coating on them so make sure you assemble this outdoors or at least on a protective mat or a hard surface that is easy to clean. Also because of the coating, don't be alarmed if it smokes a lot and smells funny for about 20 minutes the first time you use it. It was nothing extreme... just be prepared for it.
