I purchased 2 of these units. Both cords broke on them and the cord jams on the upper pulley. Sun weakens the cloth very quickly. You pay for what you get I guess..
The first few months they are ok but then nothing but trouble. Don't waste your money.

I like this so much I'm looking for a second one for my Gilbert home and a third for my Show Low home. Price is GREAT for what you get. It made it through the massive dust storm (open) try to get something like that from [@]. Easy to operate, my girls can use it(just trying to teach the dogs).

I use the umbrella, in a non-portable fashion. It is bolted onto the deck of my above ground pool. It is always available to satisfy whomever happens to be swimming; the fair skinned swimmer or the sun goddess.
After 2 full years in the elements, it is necessary to replace the shade, however, the mechanisms and ribs are still fully intact. The local squirrels have decided that they like to tear at the canvas shade, to gather nesting material. I have definately got my moneys worth and plan to purchase a replacement before summer.

We have now returned 3 umbrella's! The string has jammed on two of the returned ones!The third umbrella string has now broke. We like the umbrella but will not order a replacement. I really don't know why they are braking but it is to frustrating to deal with.

I just purchased this item recently. I purchased it in white, but because of the undesirable color I got it for [$] at our local Ace. Can't beat that price. If it only lasts a year, it was worth it. I used 16" pavers to weigh the base down, will fall over with out them. Also used a deck sealant and lightly painted the top of the umbrella with it, to make it water proof and easier to clean. Will also resist mildew and algae. So far, the cheap umbrella has survived being moved around, and east coast thunderstorms with 60 mph winds (not open of course), and 20 mph winds (open). I'm pretty impressed. I'm purchasing another one tonight. At that price you can't go wrong.

I purchased two of these last year for our condominium pool. They are in use all the time. We haven't had issues of the knobs not working as suggested in previous review. Like that they are large enough to accommodate two to three people. We purchase the water filled stand covers that can easily roll around. Holds the umbrellas up on with no problems on very windy days.

This is a good budget offset large sun umbrella. My big concern was the method of support (since offset umbrellas have the obvious challenge of wanting to tip over) - but the base for this umbrella actually is working out quite well. At first, I thought it was going to be scary, being that you place 4 square patio stones over the cross base (shown in the picture). But it works out quite well. For a nominal cost, I picked up 4 square patio stones, and they hold this umbrella up very reliably even in reasonably strong breezes (naturally, I'll close the umbrella when it gets windy, just as I would with any other patio umbrella). I was so happy with my first one, I got another one (and boy did my patio need them)! Also, this umbrella is relatively easy to re-locate in the yard, since the weight of the base is thanks to 4 patio stones (which you must buy separately), which can be moved independently.

Note that this umbrella does not adjust to be angled, like others. It is only in the "directly overhead" configuration. Oh - and the umbrella is high enough to walk under - it's unobtrusive and quite effective. I'm very happy with it.

Bought it to use over our pool in Tampa. However, the 2 black knobs used to secure the umbrella in position DO NOT WORK. The slightest Saturday afternoon breeze kept turning the umbrella 45 degrees. Solution - took out the top knob, drilled a hole and inserted a pin. Now it works great. The canvas does let a lot of sun through too. Good luck.

Good umbrella for the price....however, the canopy is beige as listed, but the pole and hardware is brown, not beige.
