These sleigh snow shovels are wonderful, and this is the best yet. I use this more than any other snow tool. They have been used on the north east coast of US, in Canada, and Northern Europe for years.
This Garant Poly Sleigh Shovel is the best yet for the light strong polymer scoop, the handle design, and three position length adjustment.
I am 70 years old, have a bad back, and use this sleigh shovel for snow up to 8 inches deep. We only get deeper snow up here in North Dakota Badlands about three times a year on three years out of ten, and I definitely use my gasoline snow blower or call a friend with a tractor who is out scooping driveways.
Many say they use this right on cement. I do not use this sleigh shovel on only three inches of snow or less, on cement, preferring to use a cheaper push type snow shovel to only clear the small loading area in front of my garage (This sleigh shovel is too pretty to scratch). Then I pack the snow on the 60 foot gravel section by driving my pickup on the first six inches or so, to make a nice base to scoop the next snow off of, or run the gasoline snow blower on without throwing rocks. (Up here the ground freezes for most of winter, no mushy snow, no mud till spring melt, by then snow is not an issue).
A few tricks are nice to know. When scooping forward, angling the handle back a little points the front of scoop upward and it then carves upward to surface where continued pushing glides it to where you want to dump. Dump it by tilting upward on its front edge (like dumping a wheelbarrow) or just by jerking back. Usually I work across the driveway and begin dumping 4 or 5 feet to side of driveway.
If you end up only clearing a narrow driveway, and the snow at sides becomes a foot or two high, and more snow is forecast, you can easily build ramps. Slide the scoop up to the bottom of ridge and angle front upward however much feels right (usually 4 inches up for me). Then push into the snow to carve ramp upward, jerk back to empty. You will then love the handle shape because you do not need to bend over much when hands are on upper forward part of bar. I find that the upper part of bar can be pushed with my waist or top of leg to help push up a ramp.
For ice I use a steel, flat fronted, utility shovel (looks like a light coal shovel). When the county snow plow plows our roads on nights that are 20 or 30 below zero the packed snow quickly becomes a wall of ice. The next clear morning I break it up with steel utility shovel or pointed steel garden shovel before scooping it up with this Poly Sleigh Shovel and sliding it to a dump area.
I never lift this sleigh shovel until off the snow, or ready to put it away. I have two snow blowers (one electric and one gasoline), ten different kinds of snow shovels, and now two Garant Poly Sleigh Shovels. This Poly Sleigh Shovel is what I use most often. After a windy night I sometimes look out to see several inches of snow blown over a ten foot section of driveway. This sleigh shovel slides it away quickly with minimum effort.
Never try to use any polymer shovel to break ice, use a steel spade or utility shovel, or a steel bar normally used for breaking asphalt. There are good long handle scrapers available that work as good as steel garden spades in some conditions.
Tip, if you might get several inches of snow, and you now have eight inches on the ground, do not wait till later to increase the size of dump area. Push this sleigh shovel in snow till full enough, then with front edge angled up slightly above snow, push it over the snow you want to pack (like your front yard). Also push a scoop full around to back door to pack a trail (much easier than shoveling). I hate it when I see a foot and a half of snow up against my back door and realize I cannot quickly use it in an emergency (storm door opens outward).
I also do this to pack a trail to my propane tank to check the propane level.
I do not in any way work for this company. I am a snow hobbyist and former cross country skier. I am a frustrated inventor that has been trying to make a better snow shovel for my snow conditions, and found this to be the absolute best to try to improve on. So far my only improvement has been to wrap electricians tape on top areas of handle. I normally wear light gloves and it really helps keep hands warm.

This is an excellent shovel. To help get the snow out of the shovel, before using it spray it down with WD-40 that you can get from any ACE store! The snow will slide right off of the shovel! I heard PAM cooking spray works but never tried it. Hope this helps everyone...God Bless

Can't recommend this snow shovel enough. Just recently received it and dug my way out of Nemo Blizzard 2013. We have lots of shovels & NOTHING comes close to what this shovel can do. We got a lot of snow and some rain, so everything was pretty heavy and and this thing just plowed through most of it. There is a knack for using it to make it the most useful but once you have it down it's just fantastic. My only regret is not getting it sooner!!

I live in Minnesota and today was the first day I got to use my new sleigh shovel. I could hardly wait for the snow storm to come. First of all I am a 48 year old female, my driveway fits four cars with room to spare. I didn't measure the snow today but I would say it was 4-6", more than four for sure and it was a wet heavy snow. My husband didn't think I'd be able to push the snow around when the scoop part was filled with the heavy, wet snow but it was soo easy! I did the driveway and the walk leading to the front door. I did not do any lifting, it just slid right up the banks I created and the snow just slid right off with a quick jerking motion. I did it all by myself as I wanted to see if I could do it and how quickly but I forgot to look at the clock. It just went really fast for just one person and I didn't get sore. I am amazed and I absolutely love it, I can't wait for the next snowfall! I think everyone should get one of these sleigh shovels, you will not regret it, trust me! P.S. I watched a few demonstrations on youtube before I used it and it was worth it, I felt like a pro from the start, I knew exactly how to use it so I do recommend checking out youtube. Lastly I would like to say that the shipping from ACEHARDWARE.COM was very fast, I ordered it on a Tuesday night and picked it up at the store on Friday night.

I live in Syracuse, NY where we average 120" of snow a year. I've used this shovel twice after 2" and again after 4". It worked great and cut my shoveling time from 50 min to 20 min. This is absolutely a must have. If you have a snowblower, this is a great alternative for the days when you only get 2-3" of snow. I have a bad back too and this puts zero strain on your back. I wish I had this years ago!!

This snow shovel moves snow effortlessly. The handle is shaped in a way that alows for easy dumping and is not hard on the back. When the shovel is full just tilt the handle down and glide it over the snow to where you want to dump than pull back and the snow stays and you are ready to move more. Great product!

After about 10 years of using our first snow shovel scoop it finally broke. We just ordered two more. The bar push handle is very sturdy and smooth, but hurt my hands a little between the thumb and the pointer finger, even though I wear gloves when using it. I put grip tape around the handle and it improves the handling and comfort. Push it like a lawn mower. When it is full, tip it to the side and dump off the snow or on our raised deck we just push the snow over the side. I do that more often as I am not very strong. My husband can push through and load on more snow before tipping as he is stronger. It is much easier to use than a regular shovel and uses both arms equally without straining your back.

Just bought this shovel after doing some online research. I have to say all the great things I read are true. The snow sleigh is easy to use, comfortable, and fast. No strain and I shoveled my driveway and back patio in a fraction of the time it usually takes. It isn't inexpensive, but it is well worth every penny it costs! So nice to buy something and be completely satisfied!

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
We live in the UP of Michigan and have a fairly long driveway and sidewalks. We did not want to go the route of getting a snowblower (noisy and consumes fuels), so had decided on some type of snow scoop. I did some research online and read reviews and settled on the Garant 24 in Sleigh Snow Shovel. When I arrived at our local Ace Hardware the scoop was right up front and the last one they had in stock.
My husband used it several times yesterday and is out doing a thorough clearing right now (the snow has ended finally). This was a very wet, heavy snow (about 12 inches) and would be straining on the back and arms with a regular shovel, but this scoop is helping make the work a little faster and easier. It is also proving to be very useful in clearing out the large pile of ice and snow left by the city plow at the end of the driveway.
Of course you'll need a smaller shovel to tend to steps or very narrow walkways. The best part of this Garant shovel/sleigh/scoop is the ability to clear large areas faster and with less strain. Short of a truck with a plow on it, this is the best snow removal tool we have found.

Excellent for those who understand the concept of snow management. I have been using this type of shovel since 1988. In most cases I prefer this over my snow blower. Cleans snow down to the cement (even tire tracks) and allows me to shovel late at night and earlier in the morning without waking up neighbors (unlike snow blower). I find it interesting that over the twenty people who have tried my shovel went out to buy one (most owned snow blowers too!). This is the perfect tool to handle those end of driveway mounds of snow the city snow plows leave behind. Good for light or heavy snow. Like others have said this is a back savers and the trick is to jerk the snow off the sleigh: not tip it over. Just received a 16 inch snow and it worked like a charm, again.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
i didn't realize how big the shovel was because I bought it online and couldn't see one in person first at the store. It really is the size of a sled so if all you want to do is push the snow to a flat spot and don't have to lift it, the shovel would probably be fine. I bought it as a present for my husband and we had to take it back because we have to push and lift our snow.

I have used this for the past 3 years and it has definitely been a back saver. What would have normally taken(on average) two hours to shovel during last years snow season took 30-45 minutes with no back pain. This shovel is definitely a sled as you can move snow over a hill with ease.
The kids in the neighborhood purchased a few and they paid for themselves after the post-Christmas snow storm.
Just be careful with broken walkways and driveways. The corners will only take so much of a beating before needing repair.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
Have used these for over 20 years. Very quite. No snow blower noise in the early am. The trick is to always slide the snow load after the scoop is full off the driveway the slight jerk backwards to unload. Don't waste time tipping the snow off. Build piles in the yard for the kids. Move that heavy stuff at the end of the drive that cloggs the snow blower. Be sure to rinse the salt off the steel edge.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
This shovel is the only shovel I use. I have a herniated disc in my low back and am not able to lift or twist using a shovel. I am able to shovel my own walks with this shovel. I just push and dump. It works on all snow, on all surfaces. Tip: as the snow level gets deeper on the sides of the walk, I bring the shovel full of snow to the side, then use my thigh to lift the shovel up and over and throw-dump it. Worth the money. Now 2 years later, the metal strip on the bottom is bending in at the sides so I'm getting a backup shovel of the same kind. I can still use it though.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
My driveway takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to clear with a regular snow shovel depending on depth and moisture content. I was done in just under 30 minutes with the Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel. It is so easy to use and no lifting involved. I would recommend this to anyone especially if you have back and/or spine issues.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
I was a bit reluctant to buy this as I thought it was a little too expensive for what you get. But if you are one who doesn't put a price on things that make life easier, then this is very much worth the cost. I did, afterall, give it 5 stars. I am a little concerned about how long it will last. Will it wear through on the bottom or will the wear strip wear out - I don't know yet. But this really makes moving snow around easy. You don't lift anything. It works very well when I use it to move snow that piles up in front of the doors after I rake the roof. Prior to getting this I would have to shovel the snow into a wheelbarrow then move it a load at a time to a place where I could then shovel or snow blow it into the woods. With this all I do is scoop up a load and slide it where I want it. One tip I would recommend - if you find that you have to cross a dry portion of a paved driveway with this sled it is a good idea to throw a little snow down to make a snow path. This will allow the sled to glide across the pavement rather then grind across it and really wear out the bottom prematurely. It works well then you are moving snow on a iced path in the yard. All in all I'm glad I added this to all my other snow removal equipment.

This is actually a pretty good tool. I was a skeptic at first, especially when I saw the [$] price tag. To my relief it has turned out to be a good buy. The shovel works the way it should and actually performs better than expected. It is far more efficient than a scoop shovel, in both time and energy spent finishing a job... and I mean by a long shot!I was surprised by the amount of snow I was able to push. Our first storm of this winter was 6" of powdery snow. I was able to plow through it for any distance without loosing momentum or using much effort. The wet stuff will give you a harder time though. There are a couple of downsides. 1) you have to be really careful when shoveling uneven surfaces. Hitting a crack in the driveway while walking at a good pace can result in handlebar to the stomach! 2) it would be nice if there were some way to dump it as you would a scoop shovel when you need to. On some occasions, especially in wet snow, you have to stop and dump the shovel because it gets too heavy.

Comments about Garant® 24in Poly Sleigh Snow Shovel (EPSS24):
This shovel is simply amazing. I can't believe I have been shoveling with a standard shovel for so long.I got this shovel just before our latest snow storm where we received 12+ inches of snow with high winds creating huge drifts across my 3-4 car wide driveway. Clearing the snow with this shovel was actually fun in some ways. The shovel would take out huge chunks of snow with relative ease. One shovel full probably equates to something like 3 standard shovels full and the beauty is you don't lift it. I was amazed at how quickly I could get the job done. The snow at the end of the driveway where the plow pushed in is a breeze to remove.I can't stop talking to my friends about this thing. Kinda crazy to be excited about a shovel. My wife gave me some strange looks when I brought this thing home because it's kinda big and looks a little comical but it's just awesome. Some dude posted a video review of the thing on [@]I'm surprised there aren't more people talking about these.

with out a doubt this is the best sno removal tool you can buy for removing snow off a roof. we just shoveld off a roof of my storage building that was 200 feet long by 70 feet wide. there were places the snow was 50 inches deep. we calculated that we moved over 840,000 pounds of snow. we used for 80 hours on this job alone and it still looks and works perfect. we used several different types of shovels. this shovel was the easiest to use. the best asepect is the ergonomic shaped handle and how much it saves on your back. you will not regret buying this product

LOVE this! I had bought one 7 years ago when I was a ski lift operator in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of CA -- they measure the snow there in YARDS, not feet. Loved it then, but it was aluminum and the snow would stick to it, and it also had a non-ergonomic handle. This new model is FANTASTIC!!! I have a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder and can still shovel without pain!
A handy tip ... as you push the snow along, filling the bucket, to dump it you don't have to just tip it up at the edge of your driveway/sidewalk ... I will tip the front edge up just slightly and then move the full bucket over the top of the snow and THEN dump it. Sort of making a ramp out of the snow ... that way, it you get a ton of snow, you can move it easily.
Can't recommend this baby enough. ENJOY!!

I bought this the day before a 6 inch snowfall, and I was anxious to try it. I was able to clear my sidewalks and a path around my house in a very short time. This shovel is light and easy to handle. I'm 64 years old and have a bad hip and a regular shovel was difficult for me to use. I wish I would have had this shovel last year when we had a lot of snow. It's already paid for itself with just one use.
