I am going to put this right up there with my snowblower with a must have winter tool. I find the roof rake to be very well made and the aluminum IS NOT flimsy. The rollers are a must have to prevent shingle damage. Wouldn't own one without them. I haven't seen any of the issues the others were writing about. The pole is obviously going to be a little flexible when you are reaching out 16' and it is in three pieces still, the poles are of a heavy gauge aluminum. It is extremely effective. I got the rake caught behind a nice big chunk of ice and snow and yanked the tar out of it until the snow came crashing down. The rake was undamaged. It is light weight and very manuverable. The handle sections go together easily and stay together. The only thing I would recommend is to check the nuts and bolts after each use for they may back off some with all the thrashing around. Well worth the money spent! BTW, Made in the USA. You don't see that much anymore. Almost brought tears to my eyes when I saw that. Go get one now.

Flimsy construction - but does the job

For the cost ($40+) I would have expected a better built product. Especially considering it was "made in america". The nuts and bolts came loose and disappeared in the snow. Luckily I had extras in my garage to put it back together.
In the end, the concept is great and it does have very good reach and is light weight. Very good soluton for stopping or preventing water leaks from ice dams.

Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
With the 5' extension installed, this roof rake should be all I need to keep excessive snowfall off our roof, thus reducing any possible damage to the gutters. Has two rollers in rake head that should prevent any gouging of the shingles. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but expect it to be a good product and last longer since it's made of lightweight aluminum. It came with updated fastners, so nuts/bolts will stay tight and in place. Probably due to prior complaints by users. Only giving it 3 stars because I haven't actually used it, yet.
Pros
- Light Weight
Cons
- Aluminum tears

Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
The roof rake saved the day here with a terrible CT winter of much smow. It is lightweight enough to let us work for quite a while but strong enough to do the job. Like anything you must take care when using it. Ours did end up with a loose screw bur we replaced it and went on with the job.

Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
Took about 10 min. to put together. Easy to use. Wheels in
blade protect the roof and makes snow removal easier. This rake is 16' long. I will buy a 5' extention for better reach.

i had bought this, and was ok with its design.for the little xtra money i purchased a roof dragon jr.from [@] .it has the ice breaking feature.but in a pinch i guess the garelick works.
Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
Very strong, able to pull heavy snow and semi-ice down. Handle snaps together, letting you twist if need be - screw-together handles will come unscrewed if you try that. Rollers keep the edge from cutting into your shingles - good! Metal blade much stronger than plastic ones on other products. DO keep bolts tightened or use thread-locker - I lost one bolt in the snow when it loosened - annoying but easy to fix. Do yourself a favor and put some XCSki wax on the blade to prevent snow sticking - it's heavy at the end of a 15 foot pole! May want to file off burr on the edges to prevent cuts. I am buying a second in order to extend reach further.

Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
Rake broke after the first 15 min of use, bolt snapped, and blade and supports bent. Made from very light Gage aluminum.
I ended up having to build my own using 1/4 aluminum diamond plate.
Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
I have never, ever, seen such poor manufacturing than is seen in this product. The rake comes with 3 five foot extensions. One end of each extension has a smaller diameter that is supposed to fit into the larger diameter end of another. The smaller diameter end has been ground down from the original diameter, apparently by some hack, bouncing the pole off a grinder of some sort. It is ragged, terribly uneven, and won't fit into the larger end of it's male mate without significant sanding by the purchaser. The poles are not ribbed for structural strength and as a result the unit is quite wimpy when extended to 16 feet, but it does work. However, don't try to remove any extension piece for storage unless you have first adequately smoothed and reduced the small end diameter. Maybe they will wise up and correct this problem. (Incidentally, the product "Endust" is a good aluminum lubricant.)
Pros
- Works like a charm

Best Uses
- Edge of roof snow removal
Comments about Garelick 16ft Aluminum Roof Rake (89416):
This product is quite strong. The edge has two rollers to prevent edge of rake from digging into roof. Poles are strong and don't bend. 18 inches of packed snow was removed from edge of roof
