Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
Moved into a beautiful house 3 years ago which was in good shape, but things started to wear considering they were the original materials with the house built in '82. The deck however was buiilt in 85. The deck has been treated before, but was in poor condition at this point, weathered and splintering in mulitple places. Researched alot of products and looked like deck restore was a good solution. My deck is approx. 550 sq feet. Many people online suggested watering down the product. I tried that and keeping the original product by itself and I will say that the product coated the same either way. I bought 4 4 gal-cans and 2 1 gallon cans which was able to coat all the deck, railings and steps. BTW- the rollers they sell for this product stink. I used 2 of them that rotted away quite quickly but then used a traditional roller to do the rest. While the product looks ok, it is extremely grainy which matches the sandiness of the product. If your alternative is getting your deck replaced, I would definitely suggest Deck Restore. If your deck needs a little boost, this is not the product for you.

Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
My son purchased a house built in 1921 with cracked plaster/cement walls. We were told the walls could not be repaired.
We initially bought the Restore kit that contains two 1 gallon cans and the roller. We patched the large cracks and holes with spackling and applied two coats of the Restore in Sandstone. The results were pretty amazing. We've since bought 4 more kits.
You have to roll VERY slow and in all different directions (not just up and down). The second coat is necessary.
You must cover everything and wear something you intend to throw away.

Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
If applied properly, this product gives a beautiful new finish to old, dried, split wood. It fills in gaps and splits, as promised. The final finish looks a lot like trex. I just finished my 18X 24 deck and I am very happy with the result. But, and this is a big but, results are totally dependent on application technique. And 2 coats is a must. The include roller is only good for initial distribution. Distribution is almost as fast by just scooping the stuff out with a good quality, wide brush or even pouring it on. For old wood, the product must be worked in with a good quality brush. Lots of back and forth with the brush, working it into the gaps, cracks and knots. Then, AND THIS IS VERY IMPROTANT TO AVOID A ROUGH TEXTURE, BACK BRUSH IN ONE DIRECTION TO MOVE EXCESS PRODUCT FORWARD AND SMOOTH THE FINISH. This technique will give a 99% adequate texture to the first coat. The few spots that clump can be smoothed prior to the second coat by shaving with a putty knife, or, even better, a long handled floor scraper.
The real beauty comes after the second coat. Apply the same way. One finished and dried, the surface looks great, has minimal roughness and is night and day compared to the original, old, cracked, decrepit wood.
Bottom line: You can restore an old, tired deck, you will work hard doing it and you will be happy with the results.

Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
Where do I start? The product has a nonskid texture in it which makes it impossible to work on the surface. The supplied roller makes the surface "orange peel" in texture and if you try to brush it, the texture pulls away in some areas making it blotchy. Absolute garbage. I've ruined a 400sq ft deck. If your a novice, stick with a regular paint or stain. Or if you insist on trying this stuff, makes sure you do a small piece of scrap to see what I mean. Then you can read my "I told you so".

Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
I have an older dog whose stability has been declining. Last year I bought a spray texture to put on the steps to help him during the cold/icy months. It was time to redo the deck and when I read about this product I decided it would be just the ticket.
After estimating the cost to apply this product to my entire 12'x12' deck and steps I decided it was not cost-effective. However, the texture aspect of the product made it very appealing for the area commonly used to enter and exit the house.
I purchased latex stain to treat the majority of the deck and then taped a path up the steps and to the door. To be honest, I cannot imagine even thinking about applying this product on the sides of the deck. It really would not be a good idea. It is difficult to get it between the boards. I was able to get good coverage between the boards with the latex stain but I can still see bare wood where I applied the Restore. When I tried to brush the product between the boards I lost a lot of material in clumps that rolled off the sides.
One other drawback was that the color of the product didn't look a whole lot like the color chip. I was lucky, however, that the color did match well enough with the latex stain I chose.
I strongly recommend using a brush to apply the first coat. Using the roller for both coats wasted a lot of product and made it difficult to get the material into the cracks in my deck. Using a brush was very effective and made it possible to cover the square footage estimated on the product.
The bottom line is, I really appreciate the skid resistant properties of this product. It is difficult to tell at this point how durable it will be but I'm optimistic.

Comments about Restore® Deck Restore Tint Kit (49010):
We used a four inch brush to apply the Restore Product. It covered better than the roller. On the second coat, we used the roller provided to add texture to the product - just brush on and use dry roller on small areas. It make less mess and better finish.
A small ceiling edger pad with the end cut off did a great job of getting the product on the edges of the boards. we did over 600 square feet of two deck. Now we need to watch the long term wear of the product.
Our decks are about 35 years old with a lot of wear. The Restore Product made with look like the expensive composit products on the market without the high cost. Our neighbor has a new composit deck, but our Restore Deck looks just as great without the high cost.
We plan to use Restore and two other old decks owned by our children.
