I'm a mechanic by trade, and needed a compact reciprocating saw that could get in tight places a regular Sawzall or air powered die grinder with a cutoff wheel couldn't get to and a torch would be unsafe. The Hackzall was the answer. Cut right through hardened grade 8 bolts very quickly on suspension components. I've even worked it much harder than one would think this tool could handle, cutting up steel racking and 55 gallon drums.
I would definitly suggest a spare battery for jobs that require long run times.

A great little power saw to grab for cutting modest size things, and for work where getting to the A.C. is inconvenient or impossible. It's light weight means you can operate it with one hand, which is nice in an awkward spot.Being a 12v device, like I said in the title, it's not going to replace your Sawzall. You will want to purchase the high capacity 12v battery to use with this, as it can suck a standard battery empty fairly quickly. My biggest gripe with this tool is that I got a very small amount of water in it (a little tap water ran out of an empty pipe I was cutting, and some ran down the blade into the tool) and it immediately seized up. This was not covered under warranty by Milwaukee; they simply offered to replace it for [$]. You mean the price of a new tool? No thanks. Just to add insult to injury, they then wanted $15 bucks to send it back. Had I known end users could buy parts, I might have even been willing to pay to get it back (as an aside, something I've never had happen with a repair before). So do I recommend this device? Yes, with the warning that using it in any environment where it might get wet is inviting expensive failure. I would pay a few more dollars for this tool if they would add a few seals at critical points.

Comments about Milwaukee® M12 Cordless Hackzall One Battery Kit (2420-21):

As an Electrician, I bring this little guy in for service call work or the instances when I need just a few cuts. It offers terrific capability in a super small package. If you've got to cut some drywall, make a few cuts in studs or flooring, or you just need a super small tool then this is your go to recip saw. For major remodels I go to my 18V Fuel saws all.

My only critisisms after a year of continual use is the amount of vibration the saw produces while trying to cut conduit and the fact that the batteries are very hard to remove from the tool. I had another trades guy tell me he has the same problem. Overall I love the tool and originally thought it would be just a toy. Definately not a toy. Based on my like for this tool I plan to upgrade to the Fuel version. Nice job Milwaukee.

Comments about Milwaukee® M12 Cordless Hackzall One Battery Kit (2420-21):

Motor burns up very easily under just moderate use. Runs but then quits working under load. This has happened twice in 4 years. Very disappointed in this Milwaukee tool. Did not expect Black & Decker performance and quality from a Milwaukee tool. Have the other M12 tools and never a problem, love them. Save your money on the Hacksaw - its not a good quality tool

Very well balanced, easy to use in both directions, can go through most materials in an appropriate amount of time. Could use a slightly larger cooling area, and the possibility of a more powerful motor would do wonders for harder projects that a normal SawZall would not fit into.

          About Me Professional

Comments about Milwaukee® M12 Cordless Hackzall One Battery Kit (2420-21):

The recip saw would be perfect if the motor did not burn up. Sent in the saw for repairs, and it cost almost as much as a new complete kit with case and battery's. The repaired saw has already burnt up within 4 weeks of being rebuilt. If you dont need to use it as a recip saw its great. You might be able to use it as a hammer. the 1/4' impact driver, angle drill, multi tool, 3/8" drill, 1/4" screw gun, Radio, Jig saw and 3/8" driver are good tools to buy. Dont buy the jacket either, it wont last long.

The M12 batter life is ideal for small jobs but I would recommend the slightly larger M18 if you're planning on cutting lots of 'metal'.

I like that tool because only one hand is required to use it. For small jobs or if you need to hold something with your other hand at the same time, it is very convenient. I do like the m12 products (m18 as well). The only thing that i don't like so much is the tool "behaviour" while i'm trying to cut something; the blade often stick to the target and then shake rather than cutting the piece unless I apply a lot of pressure on the tool. Other than that, everything is perfect.
