I use this in the garden when I'm weeding. It's very effective when I sit it out about 15 min. before I start, to create the barrier. Not as effective in heavy breezes, but if put "upwind" it does carry. I especially like it when we have guests in the evening on the deck. We have a very large deck so I just put one in each corner and it's great. The refills last at least as long as indicated and usually longer.
