I like the power of this little tiller and I think for my needs it will work well. There is a couple of things I'd recommend to them in future designs though. First is the throttle. If they made it longer more like the size of the lock-out trigger on the top of the handle I think it would be more ergonomic. After thoroughly tilling a 10x15 ft area my index finger is feeling numb and it has been 2 days. I went ahead and continued tilling again today, but hope I am not causing a long lasting situation. I feel if the throttle that controls the power/tines to operate were longer so that it was more easily held by all my fingers as I am holding the handle this would be a much better design. I am tilling a 22x40 garden that was first tilled last spring but not prepared last fall so the ground isn't hard, but does have weeds and some grasses. The other thing that I have no recommendation offer, but I have had to stop quite often to remove a rock that gets jammed in the tines. Also seems weeds and grasses do get wrapped around the tines more than I am used to with larger tillers I have used in the past. This in itself isn't a major problem, but I wonder if there would be a way to design the tines so this didn't happen as badly.
I think for what I will typically need this tiller for it will work well and it is very powerful even though it is small.

This tiller works great....when I can get it started, which is RARELY. Ask any "guy" to come over and crank it up and they can do it easily. I can crank that cord till I turn blue and it doesn't do anything except make me mad and wear me out! BEWARE...I bought this thing because I love to garden, am NOT a "wimp" and there was a video of an 80 yr old woman using it in the sales pitch. Don't believe it. I am not an 80 yr old woman (50s, hiker, outdoors person). I would LOVE to use mine occasionally, but it is just too difficult to start.

Comments about Mantis 2 Cycle Mini Tiller (7920):
First year I loved this too. Used on hard clay without some help of a shovel, it's a workhorse. Year 2 harder to start. As the unit gets older performance is still good but starting gets much more difficult. Two cycle carburetor gets very touchy. Also discovered that the diaphragm disintegrates rapidly with ethanol gas. In short, if you use it all the time and don't mind maintaining it and babying it it will perform well it's old age. But as I got older I just wanted to work. Last year after changing the carburetor and having it stop working after a month I toss in the towel and brought it into the shop for repairs. Today Spent the whole morning trying to get this thing to start. I decided to go with the lower-cost electric tiller. 8.5 amp electric motor is equal to 1.3 hp gas. I think the mantis would work well for someone who uses it all the time, needs mobility and doesn't mind maintaining it. If your needs are small and you don't use it frequently it seems like electric is the way to go.

Comments about Mantis 2 Cycle Mini Tiller (7920):
This is my second Mantis tiller. I finally had to replace my 16 year old one, which was reliable, and I loved. I worked it to death and it just kept going. The new tiller is two years old, and the only time it has ran right was the very first time I started it. After that it was hard to start and stalls continually. I've actually pulled my old tiller back into service a couple of times just so I could get the job done. I don't know what the company changed in 16 years, but it was not for the better.

Replaced my 20 yr old reliable baby for a new one...piece of junk...diagnosis was dirt in the cylinders...imagine that!!!!! Only 13 months old...sad to see what this once noble machine has become..

Very unreliable machine. Never know if it will crank. I have to adjust the carburetor pretty much every time I use it. I have the two cycle version. I don't ever plan to buy another Mantis product.

Bar none the biggest piece of junk I have on my property, I work lots of hours and try to buy the best of everything so I don't have issues, this tiller was a mistake! This is my second use and it won't start! Owned it for 3 months, how can a spanking new item work like this? I buy premixed fuel as recommended by the distributor

Comments about Mantis 2 Cycle Mini Tiller (7920):
Ok, so, I only gave this 4 Stars, but not because of performance issues, I've had my Mantis in excess of 10 years and it works flawlessly, Makes me a happy fellow. The only gripe I have is the Location of the on and off switch, located on the Handle, when the Mantis Jumps your hand can hit that switch and shut the machine down. Small potatoes? Maybe, but it still is a design flaw in my opinion.
Bottom line.. I truly like the Mantis, it digs in like an Alabama Tick.

I have had nothing but problems with this since I bought it two years ago. It won't prime and takes 20 pulls to start if it starts at all. And 5 years from handles to tines, what r u gonna break. The engine is covered by someone else. Lol
I'll use my 30 year old troybilt. Thank you.

Comments about Mantis 2 Cycle Mini Tiller (7920):
I am 70 and have had a small garden and flowers for over 40 years. Bought my mantis tiller in 1998 and have had only routine maintenance done to it. It has been a great little tiller that i continue to use to this day. I gave up my front tine tiller when i bought this one.
I usually have about 20 tomatoes and several other vegetables as well as flowers each year. It is easy to start and does a great job. I particularly like it because it is small and light weight and you can get into tight places with it. My only problem has been finding parts locally. Usually have to order them. Gas supply hose cracked and leaked after 16 years of use and had to order new ones. Parts were reasonable priced. When/if this one finally dies, i will most definitely buy another one. thanks for a great product!

This is my second mantis and I believe it is the best performing one. I had my first mantis a long-----------

I have rented these and own these sweet little machines and have never had a lick of any problems with them ( UNLESS ) you leave the worthless ethanol mix gas in it for an extended period of time , I had to replace a carb because the worthless gas destroyed it , ( ALWAYS USE)
the additive for ethanol gas , unless you have non ethanol gas available then you still need the additive for extended storage periods , ( DO NOT BLAME MANTIS FOR YOUR IGNORANCE ) If you are having starting problems , it's the gas NOT the machine

Comments about Mantis 2 Cycle Mini Tiller (7920):
I bought a replacement for the old Mantis I had for 12 years. No problems with the old one but the replacement was a PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE. Used it one day last year and now this year it will not start and the service center said I would have to leave it for 4-5 weeks. I will not buy another one as the starting problem is a nightmare.
