I use the solvent based in my acoustic drum building. I can drill through it, sets fast and dries very hard. I keep acetone on hand to keep it pliable and for clean up. By far the best product on the market. Takes stain well and sands very nicely. Extremely volatile, so keep it well ventilated or use a good mask

Today I bought a tube of this to use to fill some cracks in my deck. As I squeezed the tube, it basically blew up in my hand. It was of no use. I bought the same product about a month ago and it was fine. A year or so ago, I tried the same product in a can. It was dry off the shelf. Years ago, this was a reliable product. Not so much so now it seems.

You also used to be able to get, if I recall correctly, a decent sized tube of the product. All I can find now is around 2 oz tubes.

Comments about Plastic Wood 1-1/2oz Wood Filler Tube (21500):

simple patching of nail gun holes. While squeezing the product from the tube , as others have noted, the crimped end burst open. After using probably 2% of the product, the rest is useless. Expect way better from DAP. Apparently this is a common problem. Will warn off friends.

Comments about Plastic Wood 1-1/2oz Wood Filler Tube (21500):

I used this product because it was recommended to me by the store assistant. I really wish I hadn't listened to him, because this stuff doesn't work well at all. I really want my money back and now I'm going to be behind on my project. I'm redoing my countertops with wood and used this to help fix some flaws. Didn't work well at all. I had to use my fingers for application, and it was like somewhat clay-like, but very hard to properly fill the holes and very grainy. I'm waiting on it to dry so I can sand it but I'm not confident that the results will be proficient.

Ok so i sanded and applied my 2nd layer sanded again after just an hour and added a little in the divets i let that dry again an hour and sanded...pics below
This piece i used it on is 1950's and shabby chic'd no need for it to absolutely flawless (justifying)....however i was able to build the bottom and fill in this cavity ...the big chunk of wood missing that made this piece ugly is now in the past...just need to do a little more sanding, chalk painting and its as good as the rest of the original wood....smooth as a babys butt :)

I am using this to repair missing laminate on dorm room doors. I did add some acetone to make it more pliable and easier to spread, I am applying it in thin layers, sand smooth and reapply to get desired thickness. So far I am very content with this product, it also helps to apply it to a clean dry surface, after all it is meant to bond to wood.

Before first use I had to add acetone to be able to use. I got it to the consistency of peanut butter. The spot that I had to fill was quite small but to make it blend I extended about 3 inches to each side of the area to be repaired before I could get to the midway point the plastic wood that was being spread was drying so quickly that within 1 minute of starting it was unworkable

I had to match some laminate flooring and the match wasn't perfect so there were some gaps to fill. I filled the gaps with your plastic wood and some of the filling came out after a few days and what was left crumbled. Very unhappy with the results.

This is my second tube. The first was a liquid, or so I thought. I used it to fill in hardware holes, but as I got half way down the tube, the product was really dry. It appears as though the liquid was supposed to be mixed in with the dry material, however, it must have separated while in the store shelf. I kneaded the product before use too, but I guess that didn't work. I just purchased a second tube this morning. Began working on my project, kneaded the tube, pressed the product into the nail hole, and it burst open from the top, aiming for my forehead and hair. I'm just glad it didn't get in my eyes. It's too bad because this product is exactly what I need! Stainable, durable and can be screwed again after it dries. I will give it one more try, but first I will return it back to the store.

installed crown molding that was already stained and lacquered to cabinets. Used the walnut Plastic Wood to fill the nail holes and what a mess. This stuff sticks to lacquer like crazy. Impossible to wipe off. My intent was to fill the holes, lightly sand and then hit with stain and buff so as to not have to re-lacquer.

Now, I have to wet sand with 400 grit just to get the excess filler off and will have to touch-up spray after finishing to get the sheen back.

Any tips on how to avoid such a mess next time? Is there a solvent or something that will take this stuff of lacquer instead of elbow grease?

Like others complained. The canned product is a lumpy mess suspended in acetone. Not putty. The instructions say it dries in 15 minutes. No way. It turns to putty in that time. Two hours later it is pretty stiff, but dents very easily under thumbnail. And scrapes to powder with thumbnail. I sure am glad I tested first, and did not commit it to my project. It would have destroyed it.

I followed all directions to a tee. I had new oak stairs installed. I first used wood conditioner, then applied the stain. The color was PERFECT, even throughout, NO BLOTCHING!!!. Then I used the DAP to fill holes and some gaps, lightly sanded with 220 grit when dry, reapplied the stain, then my beautiful stairs DISAPPEARED, all my hard work went down the toilet. I bought this product because it stated right on the package that it was STAINABLE!!! It is NOT!!

DAP: Don't advertise what is not true. It has cost me many more hours of work to correct an issue created by this product!! Plus the delay in finishing the rest of the room. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I bought it.

I have attached pictures of the ruined stairs. I just wish I took pictures of them before I used this product.

In all fairness, I have and still do use your other products, particularly your caulks, which work great, but I have only painted over them. This is my first, and last, time I will use any DAP product with wood stain.

Unfortunately, found this out AFTER I spent the time to apply the product and sand before I stained. I applied according to the directions. I would NOT buy this product again.

I'm fixing crown moulding, baseboards, etc. that the builder's painters made a horrible mess of. They didn't match up the crown joints very well. They have covered up the terrible work with acres of caulk. I spent weeks getting all the caulk off and then used this to actually make it appear that the crown fit together properly. Was actually able to sculpt a new moulding profile on the outside corners. Had to build it up with maybe three coats, but it sanded beautifully and you can't tell the moulding was installed badly. So easy to sand. Had been using Elmer's but have switched to this as I do tons of detail work and this sands so much more easily. Use 120 for first pass and 150 for final pass. Going to get more tomorrow!

Our gate was starting to fall apart so I filled in the holes from the screws and let it set so I could reattach the screws into place. It really did work like a charm to help fix the gate and it's holding strong now.

There was several holes in walls from screws in the new panels and old panels that needed come covering up. I applied some of the Dap Plastic Wood Latex Wood Filler to these holes. It seems to dry very quickly and I was able to sand it down to restain the paneling. My next product is to work on the old wooden windows downstairs.

It's good for indoor quick fixes around the house. I've only used a small amount, but so far so good and no touch ups needed. It's only been a few weeks so can't say how durable it will be longer time. I'm hopeful though!
