I've enjoyed Butterfingers since I was a kid in the 70's. They have been a favorite for just eating and many recipes. We rarely buy them anymore as it's a gamble, wondering if they will be soft, flakey and delicious, or hard and inedible. We don't buy them as often anymore for this reason alone.
My wife and I actually debated today, while looking at candy if we wanted to take a chance on Butterfingers. We did buy a 95 piece, 56 oz bag of mixed candy. Butterfinger, Crunch and Baby Ruth. It's my 10 year old sons birthday party, plus Halloween around the corner. Butterfinger is his favorite candy bar. Unfortunately, the rock candy struck again. We tried a total of 8 butterfingers and all were so hard they are worthless. I don't understand why it's become a gamble to get a fresh batch, would figure buying a huge $10 bag of Halloween candy it would be fresh. I am done with the gamble, what a huge waste of money and a disappointed child.
No more Butterfingers for our house!!!

I love Butterfinger but...

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

Butterfinger has always been my all time favorite candy bar but unfortunately most of them the center is rock hard and is a huge disappointment for me. I always check the expiration date and its good but most of them are too hard to bite so I usually hit them with a hammer to break into edible bites. The taste is always good but just difficult to eat and enjoy. Bought these today and unfortunately like a rock...see photo

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

What happen if the flaky layers of peanut butter and corn flakes? They are hard as a rock I would sooner buy Almond Roca if I wanted something like this! It seems like her she is Fifth Avenue is the only original crunchy peanut butter confection with peanut butter and corn flakes to this day is still flaky as it supposed to be! Nestle I am very disappointed in you!!!

I bought a whole bag to snack on at work. All of the bars are so hard, you can't even bite into them. Whats going on? Did you change the ingredients? I'm not sure I'll ever buy again. You cant even bite into them.

Milk chocolate is ok, but dark chocolate is better for you if you're going to eat chocolate candy. Recently had the bite sized piece from a Halloween party. It was ok.

INGREDIENTS-WHOA!

By DANTHEMAN

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

HYDROGENATED PALM OIL=TRANS FAT=BAD FOR THE HEART

Food companies began using hydrogenated oil to help increase shelf life and save costs. Hydrogenation is a process in which a liquid unsaturated fat is turned into a solid fat by adding hydrogen. During this processing, a type of fat called trans fat is made. While small amounts of trans fats are found naturally in some foods, the majority of trans fats in the diet come from these processed hydrogenated fats.

Hydrogenated oils can affect heart health because they increase "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and lower "good" (HDL) cholesterol. Still, food manufacturers continue to use them — especially partially hydrogenated oils (POH) — to:

save money
extend shelf life
add texture
increase stability
Hydrogenated oil isn't always easy to spot, but there are ways to pinpoint it and avoid it for good.

Hit or Miss Core Consistency

By Steve

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

I've been on a Butterfinger Bender the last month, going through 2-4 1.9 oz bars/day or 2-2 pc Share bars. Half the time the core just collapses when given a chew, the other half of the time the center stays hard as a jaw breaker. I don't believe that the latter is the way they were designed. And this inconsistency can manifest itself in the same batch/box. I purchase my Butterfingers at the Jackson's Food Store at 303 West 7th Ave, Eugene OR. ID -- 71985747F2, 16:00:13/BB End May 2018; 72375747F3, 22:11:29/BB Jun 2018. Thanks

Hardness

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

I thought it was me getting older and losing taste buds--but after reading some reviews, I find that I'm of sane mind. What happened to the past crispness and taste of the original Butterfinger that I grew up on and liked so much. This new version isn't going to work for me. I thought I was getting stale candy and went to different locations only to find this new Butterfinger is global in hardness and taste.

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

I love Butterfinger and used to have it everyday. However, every since I notice there are hydrogenated oil and tbhq in it, I stop buying them. Tried making something like it myself, but it is not the same and it's too much work! I hope the company can make a version with less artificial ingredients.

Texture Changes

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

The texture of Butterfingers has changed. I first
thought I had somehow purchased a few stale bags, but over time, I came to realize they are now just harder and crunchier. Still good, but I liked the way they once were much better. Why the change?

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

My wife has made cookies with Butterfingers for years. She hadn't made them in over a year and when she did the cookies has a different texture and not for the better. She mentioned the candy bar crushed up different. When cooked it was less greasy and didn't have that great Butterfinger chew. I am sorry the recipe was changed as it ruined the greatest cookie ever.

Bought a Butterfinger candy bar from a vending machine today, Exp.date1-2018. Tasted like old honey, drank some water to clear my mouth and took another bite,no flavor of chocolate and the crunchy part still tasted like old honey. Not happy at all, now I have a bad stomach ache.

poor consistency to often the bars too hard

By darn

from Albuquerque, NM, United States

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

I have been getting butterfingers since I was a kid going to the movie theater getting a box. and for the last 5+ years they have changed 50% of them are hard as a brick and they hurt your teeth. I just bought a fun size bag this month which expires march 2018 but half of the bag is inedible. I think I will be switching to fifth avenue until nestle listens to us and fixes this issue and makes butterfingers the Crispitist and Crunchitist again until then I think that title can no longer rightly apply to butterfinger.

Why Ruin a Good Thing?

By KidKandy

from California

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

OMG, I thought I was going crazy. Butterfinger was my very first candy bar as a child in the 1970's. They have always been my favorite, but something changed in the last few months. The middle is no longer a crunchy, crumbly treat. Now they're chewy like a Milky Way. Why do manufacturers insist on ruining good products? Nestle, if you want to experiment you should make another product line and let it compete against the original recipe. Don't just force us to accept substandard products, let us choose.

Comments about Butterfinger Candy Bar (10104):

I bought this weekend a 6 pack of small bars (fun size??) in a package for 1.50 from the local grocery store.

This is the 3rd time that I have run into a problem though bought from local various stores (in the Greater Portland Maine area) with 1 to 3 of them being so HARD I almost broke my teeth !!

While I DO tell others how much I LOVE butterfingers I DO NOT suggest they get the smaller bars in a 5 or 6 pack for 1.50 ish or less in our area.
