My brother-in-law recommended a similar product which was not available in our area, so I went to the local hardware store. The deck I needed to fix was a mess, with mildew, and no treatment for several years. I followed the directions, and used the recommended deck wash--(just spray, wait and brush off!), then followed with a wood brightener--those gave me almost a new surface to work on. We let the deck dry for several days just to make sure we had a clean, dry surface and then yesterday we applied 2 coats of Deck Correct. I am a single mom and my teens and I redid the deck in an afternoon...Cannot believe the difference--it looks NEW! I used the Deck Correct on the floor and steps, and had Cabot stain matched for the railing. (Just a word to the wise--plan to keep going once you start, as this stuff dries very quickly and it was a windy day here in Mn.)

I liked the color choices Cabot had to offer and the ease of application. It just did not work as advertised. I used Rust-Oleum's Restore for concrete before this and although it was a little more difficult to apply, one you mastered the technique it wasn't too bad. Restore did exactly what it said it would do and covered several cracks after only two coast one which was easily a quarter inch wide. Deck Correct took 3 coats on smaller cracks and I was still dabbing paint to cover small holes afterwards. Restore left a very nice finish and did a better job of covering imperfections than Deck Correct. I put down the Restore a year ago and it has held up extremely well under wet harsh conditions. Hoping the Deck Correct will do the same and will be surprised if it does not. Cabot is and excellent brand but this product needs some improvement......

we applied this product after having deck professionally prepared last fall. This spring we noticed peeling and it is getting worse. I have sanded and repainted these areas and now the repaired spots are obvious.

Love this.

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

My deck was in good shape, foundation wise, but for 15 years, I only stained it every year.I heard mixed reviews on this product. But other products were much more expensive. The cracks in the flooring of my deck were getting large, and had some splinter areas. Some of the spindles of railing that was exposed a lot were also cracking. The other problem I had, were the stairs were really slippery when wet. The sandy texture also solved that problem. People complained in some of the reviews that the texture of the deck correct was like putting on mud. Well, they were right. But that is the point when a product claims it will fill up to a quarter inch cracks. It it did even better than that. I power washed my deck. Then applied two coats, making sure to fill any bad spots. I also used it in areas of my railing where the cracks were large. I covered about 400 sq. ft , with a double coat, with less than four gallons. ( better than the can said it would cover) I wish I had taken before and after photos. But the photos I have provided, will be able to show where the cracks were, but are now closed. I have just put on this product on three decks and a porch. So, I dont have any long range performance of the product. Also, I would recommend, not to use ANYTHING you want to keep, to apply this product. The adheasion of this product makes any pan, brush, roller impossible to clean. I think that is a good sign actually. Also, dont be shocked when you apply. I chose the "Frontier" color, and when wet, It looks like brown mustard. I though OMGosh. But when it dried, the color was more "cedar" brown. ( The first three, lighter photos are the most accurate of the finished color )

Put product on 10 months ago. Noticed this spring, in May, several spots that are bubbling/blistered. We prepped and painted exactly to instructions. Definitely will not be recommending this product to anyone.

As with any product, preparation is essential. Deck Correct is a great product for decks that are dry and worn looking. I've used it on a number of my customer's decks and the end result is beautiful! No complaints to date; I will continue to use and promote this product.

Good news and bad news

By JSS1

from Oregon

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

We applied this to our deck last summer, following all directions. It went on like a dream. It totally renewed the weathered deck. That's the good news. Now the bad news. After one winter, the finish is lifting in a few places. Not bad: I can fill those. The problem is that the finish is a magnet for moss and weather stain here in Oregon's wet winters. There are green and black stains everywhere. We selected a gray color and it pulls dirt off your shoes bottoms. After less than a year, the deck is functional with a reasonable protective cover but the finish looks like it is 10 years old.

Great product

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

Last year we put a wooden accessibility ramp onto our deck in order to accommodate my husband's disability. Living in the upper mid-west was very concerned about keeping the ramp safe in the ice and snow. Local hardware store recommended this product. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I am a retired senior citizen and had no problem applying this product. As far as performance I couldn't ask for anything better. I would even slide my feet to see if it was slippery and it was always skid proof. Even after an ice storm, the ramp was easy to walk on while the sidewalk at the end of the ramp was near impossible to walk on. Thanks for a great product.

Very Poor Quality Product

By Joyce

from Fremont NE

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

We purchased several hundred dollars worth of Deck Correct in April 2015. We followed application instructions and applied two coats to the deck and three coats to the steps. Already in December 2015 we noticed that the steps looked like they had not been treated for years and then as the snow melted, there are chips along edges and on the surface of the deck. We spent all of that money and time because we were told that this product would last for years. We couldn't be more disappointed in a product. We should be refunded every penny that we spent on Deck Correct. As you can see from the pictures, we have a lot of things to do over and it has not even been a year.

it performs exactly as it said it would. my neighbor just applied rustoleum restore 10x. we both use the same handyman who helped in both jobs. said he would never use the restore again because of the difficulty of installation. the deckcorrect gave a comparable finish to the 10X at 1/2 the price and less labor cost.

By charley01

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

I am very disappointed in this product. I know my deck is bad shape, which is why I bought this product. After 3 coats, 2 rolled with a brush coat in the middle, there are still many cracks less than the 1/4 in specified that are not filled. It went on very smoothly and with the brush the cracks seemed to be filled, but after it dried the cracks were still visible.

Product worked great; two coats over an older cedar deck and it looked remarkably new. We have two dogs and unfortunately the products seems to attract dirty paw prints and does not hose off easily. Is there another product to apply over Deck Correct to make it easier to keep clean?

This is an excellent solution to weathered decks. Coverage is good, but don't paint it thin, leave semi-thick coat of product on your deck. I used Newburyport blue and it is absolutely wonderful. Looks great and feels good on bare feet, a must at my house.

I purchased a gallon this weekend. I was told over and over it goes on thick and covers well. It doesn't cover well at all. I wanted white (which you can't get). I ended up with a light grey. Terrible coverage. 3 coats, and the white still bleeds thru. Used 3/8" nap. All in all, very limited. Hope it lasts

Impressed so far. Wainting to see durability

    By DIY0311

    from Stafford, VA, United States

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

I brought this after seeing a the bad reviews for Rustoleum Restore 10x (that I brought a gallon of) and other products like it. I was sold by the sq ft coverage and it's ability to spread more like paint and the Cabot name. I had to go to an Ace Hardware which was about 30mins away to get it. My deck was in horrible shape with a lot of cracked but supportive boards and I was not sure that the product could do the job based upon the marketing that I saw from other products (such as 2x 4x and 10x thickness). I trusted the reviews and must say that after doing some prep work (cleaning and wood brighter) filling cracks, priming with deck start (wish I knew about CABOT primer first) and putting some solid stain in between the decking boards cracks, this product laid down very badly for the first coat. I proceeded to do the 2nd coat and the result were very good. While the smoothness of the paint depends largely upon the wood surface, Deck Correct cam through with flying colors, for working with it and the end result. I would say that you guesstimate your project with one extra gallon for what you think you may need. Bad decks will use more of the covering on the first go around. I only question durability at this point (which Cabot says you should get from 2-4 years from it. Going by the thickness so far of what is on my deck, I am leaning towards thinking that they are correct with that time frame. Cabot has a winner here if if makes it through this winter. We shall see.

    Works Great!

    By Mcejones

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

My original deck was ~ 15 years old, and a few years ago, I added an extension. Last summer, I used DeckCorrect for the first time, and the results have been great. The DeckCorrect made both sections (old and new deck) look uniform. It filled in the cracks and left a nice, even textured finish. NOTE: I had used Cabot Deck stain (solid stain - Chestnut Brown) on 2 separate occasions. The color match of DeckCorrect with the original solid stain was perfect. After a year+, the DeckCorrect looks as good as the day I put it down. Highly recommended.

    EXCELLENT PRODUCT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

    By Kappers

    from Iron Ridge, WI USA

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

We have a very old and open front porch that does have a covered roof over it. For the past 23 years we have been sanding and repainting approx. every 2 years. I ended up calling the 1-800 number and speaking with representatives (2 separate times) and was advised of what product to use and what the process would be. They even had documentation of my first call to them. We are very impressed with their customer service to their customers and they are the ones to call. Application of Deck Correct was so easy. We brushed on the edges that the roller could not reach into and along the porch wall. Then rolled the rest on. We let our porch dry about 12 hours and got up early the next morning and rolled the 2nd coat on. It is simply beautiful!! Clean up was a breeze. We were told that parts may need to be touched up in about 3 years but hopefully nothing like the peeling mess that we have had to deal with. We chose the color "Dark Grey". When we opened up the can it appeared not to be the correct color as it looked brownish. However, when we applied it and as it dried it was perfect. Also, at the home improvement store where we purchased the Deck Correct, a painter told the salesman that a big mistake that homeowners make is to pressure wash without and not letting the boards thoroughly dry before painting.

So far I really like the product, but I didn't get my surface as perfect as I should have before I began. I power washed, but did not get all mildew stains fully removed. Could anyone tell me please, what's the worst that could happen? It looks pretty good now, and I haven't even done the second coat yet.

I just bought 10 Gallons of this product because I trust Cabots far more than I trust Behr or Rust-oleum. I always research what I buy but I surprised myself and did an impulse buy when I talked this through with the Sales team. I am scared to death about what color the Redwood is going to be when I apply it. 10 Gallons!!! Whoever posted that the Redwood was orange can you post a picture of the deck next tot he swatch so we can see an example?

    By MicheleZ

    from Buffalo, MN, United States

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

I completed the deck today, the product was easy to apply with the roller. Deck Correct dried quickly. I really like that the texture isn't a rough as other products on the market. I am very disappointed with the color swatch to product. I spent a long time picking out a color, I choose Arboretum. It looks like a light blue, lighter than the swatch on the deck no that Deck Correct has Benin applied. It would be great if we could purchase a sample to compare colors at home. The deck is a large project, due to my disappointment in color I will be going back to select a new color to restain the deck.

    I can't believe the results!

    By Pamela

    from Virginia, United States

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

We used Cabot's DeckCorrect last summer on our awful, cracked, splintered, worn out porch. The previous owner painted the pressure treated wood and so we had to paint it too. Which we did just about every other year, until we found Cabot. This paint is too good to put into words. It's thick and really sinks into those deep, deep cracks and crevasses. It did take a lot of paint, a couple more gallons that we initially figured, but it was well worth it. After all last summer, and the brutal winter, it doesn't show one bit of ware. The paint has a slight texture, which is great so it's non-slip. The color was great and true to the sample. I would HIGHLY recommend this paint if you have an old beat-up porch or deck. It's an investment for more free time in the future and less painting!

Seems like a great product but to early to tell.

    By Tony

from Big Bear Lake, CA, United States

Comments about Cabot 5 Gallon Deck Correct (05-25200):

This stuff really did make my old deck looks years younger and cost less than paint as you don't need to prime the wood first. As all others have said, the color chart is WAY OFF, it's much lighter than the chart shows it will be. We ended up liking the color so it was no big deal for us, but for others I can see why they are upset.
