My needs are minimal as only two small rooms have rugs. I lost my original upright vacuum in the flood from hurricane Sandy, leaving me with only a shop vac unsuitable for these two carpeted rooms. My first experience with a "Dirt Devil" was with a hand held plug in that continues to give outstanding service, so when I saw the "Dirt Devil" lineup I looked them over with a partiality, comparing them to the other standard brands. I noticed two "Dirt Devil" models designed for pet owners (I am not) and I thought this was a pretty keen specialty design that smartly accommodates the ever-expanding pet household count in our nation......I continued shopping. Having nominal needs, I wasn't looking for vacuums much exceeding $50 or $60 dollars.....and playing with the display models of the various brands, I got annoyed with the gimmicky styling and the often puzzling dirt canister removal and emptying designs.....and there are SO many different ones. "Dirt Devil" vacuums seem to have straightforward, thoughtful designs in appearance and functionality including the swift removal, emptying and replacement of the dirt canister. So, on sale at PC Richard via their website and in stock at their local store, I found this scaled down upright. Sale priced and well reviewed on their website, I decided to buy it. Tonight was the unboxing and first use. It is a scaled down and lightweight design of what we've all come to know in an upright vac. The hose is exceptional quality and the handle extends for use and retracts for storage in a snap. The upright section of the vacuum swings all the way down, parallel with the floor for a great reach and clearance under low furnishings and the decreased width adds to the ability to get into tight spaces that a standard size vac would stumble at.  If you have huge square footage (I don't) of rug/floor to vacuum, you'd want a standard size machine, of course. I didn't get to examine this vac until the unboxing, but the fast dirt canister design exists on this machine as well. It's fast and clean unloading dirt. My girlfriend's vacuum is not too bad emptying the dirt box, a little awkward, but this "Dirt Devil" is fast. I like that. The "see through" plastic (I think they all have them) is the way to go. Again this vac is "bagless." There is a little green indicator in a window designed to alert the user when it's time to empty and clean the filter and dirt cup and check for clogs. I cannot comment on this feature as the machine has only 5 minutes of operation on it. It's not a big deal for me if it works well or not because I'm the type to clean the components often on my own. I like the plastic formula used in the construction. It's has a slight pliability that makes sense with the forces involved in the task of vacuuming floors. The bright red "Dirt Devil" color speaks of "utility" and because it's so visually conspicuous, the possibility of tripping over or knocking the unit down the steps should be reduced. The power cord is "ribbed" along the wire axis which gives a tougher service against cracking/chaffing/damage over time and the plug has that built in "push-clip" that stows it away neatly snapped onto the coil when wound around the two familiar keeper clips behind the unit. I prefer a power on/off switch high on the unit for a finger to use, based on using a vacuum I borrowed that had the switch low for the toe to use which had a stubborn action. My "Dirt Devil" power switch is also toe operated, but it's crisp and fast to find and use unlike my borrowed vac, so I think it'll be just fine only because the crisp operating switch design makes its location a non-issue. The machine's "upright" stowaway position just snaps up into place and the design requires the user to step on the "nozzle" (the component that travels the floor with the wheels and the roller brush) to "pop" the "upright" back from the stowaway position in order to use the vac with the upright freely pivoting. I hope the "catch" that locks the vac in its stowaway "upright" position doesn't wear out from repeated use. Standard size vacs have a release lever for this function. We'll see how it lasts...... The "floor nozzle" has a window to view the middle portion of the roller brush which could be useful to see a jam or a buildup of string that that can become problematic, though I think the critical point for this situation exists at the ends of the roller which are not visible in the window......but still, the window can be useful and adds to the value of the machine. The dirt canister has more dis-assembly for cleaning than I've yet needed to do, but the top of the canister itself offers a great lifting handle in addition to the retractable handle, so the unit is not only light and scaled down, it's hand lift friendly. The top of the handle has a "keeper" clip to help manage the power cord while using the unit, keeping it high off the floor at the machine. This should help avoid the dreaded "run-over-the-power-cord-with-the-roller-brush" move...... Tools for using the hose apart from the floor nozzle are the standard crevice tool and a brush nozzle. The brush fibers are quite tough but I'd like to see a double row of them instead of the single row. The brush fibers on the roller bar are also very tough. And suction? Robust and effective in my fast first use that got the office/bedroom wall to wall knocked out. I took the hose off the floor nozzle and put palm to it and trust me, it sucks with impressive power, lol! I registered the product online earlier and read over the owner's manual which is somewhat confusing because it covers TWO "Dirt Devil" models side by side in sequential illustrations. The distinction between two models in one owner's manual should be more plainly indicated. Also, two additional languages plus English under each illustration and on most every page make for a very cluttered read, but it's not a big deal....it's just that I prefer each different language kept to its own separate section across the booklet....no big deal. My review cannot possibly speak to long term service of this vacuum, but you may be sure I will take care of the unit and use it consistent with its purpose. The hand held "Dirt Devil" that I referred to earlier was the initial endorsement of this purchase because it's been of great longer term service to date, and that's what I expect of this "Dirt Devil" Extreme Cyclonic Quick Vac. I would give this unit a 5 star. After all it is a small unit for smaller places. Having said that, I read the other review and my clip did not break but it does keep releasing the cup !!! Clearly a design problem ! The othe complaint is since it does NOT come with a wand, you cannot reach things like high areas where spider webs etc. are! Dirt Devel made the hose an off size so you cannot use any attachments you may already have. This unit is close but misses the mark !!

terrible doesn't suck up anything

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

I have always bought the cheapest Dirt Devil available, usually once a year. I only have a few area carpets so don't need and big expensive one. Until this vacuum I have always been extremely satisfied. NOT anymore...this one doesn't suck up anything. Very disappointed....Last Dirt Devil for me :(

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

I had a larger unit before. Got a smaller one because of my age. This one is stronger and picks up more. Very easy to use and it will go anywhere. Takes up very small space for storage. Love it.

One cat, three long-haired women, and 30 days without a vacuum.

By Petra

from Portland

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

We're too cheap to get a stellar beast of a vacuum, so I got the cheapest one I could find that looked like it *might* reasonably service a 3 bedroom apartment. I didn't read the instructions when assembling, and I know there are things that should be screwed in place--every so often I'll try to turn it and the bar turns in place instead of turning the vacuum (it didn't come with screws though?). It is very light and I feel very much like I'm going to break it, as others have, when I remove the dirt cup. It's really loud when you're picking up small things like little bits of dry cat food or kitty litter, to the point that I put in ear plugs when I was vacuuming around the litter box. I vacuumed the hallway, the kitchen, and the master bedroom and had to empty the cup twice, which really isn't that bad when you consider the title of my review. The kitchen is linoleum, the bedroom is very low carpet, and the living room and hallway are a little bit taller than the bedroom floor. It was a little harder to maneuver the vacuum on the taller carpet, but nothing I can't deal with emotionally and physically. It might be irksome if my entire apartment had the same carpet. Also, as I was vacuuming a piece of paper came off of the fridge in the kitchen and a piece of paper I had pinned to the wall also fell down. So there's something to say about the power. TL;DR: On the first day it works for the titular household because we have short-ish carpet in a small-ish apartment, but I'm worried I'm going to break it.

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

Ok i just bought this for my mil suction seems good but seems a little heavy to push i thought this would be a little easier since my mil has a bad shoulder and its hard to push and it said it has a motorized brush roll but should be okay for price and her place is small but i definetly thnk should have bought something that would have pushed itself for her guess should have spent a little more

Small but mighty

By zajman

from Northern Great Lakes

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

The pictures are deceiving, this is not a full size vac. The hose is not a full size hose. And the attachments are smaller also. But the suction is full size, and then some. I was not prepared for the power of this vac. The nice thing about a smaller vac is that you can get into spaces that full size vacs can't. I have a small apartment so it is perfect for me. It's bagless and is very easy to dump the dirt. (As in, no mess) My only complaint... The rubber bumper on the edge of the base has torn off on both sides, as in poor design. But that wouldn't stop me from buying another one, and I will if they go on sale.

Price: $28 at The Home Depot in Lancaster, TX DATE: 11/08/2015 This product is great for the price and unfortunately, the performance is corespondent.Since owning the product, I have cleaned it as directed, including allowing the parts to air dry before reassembling. As of January 2016, my family members and I began to notice issues with the suction.

Great Little Vacuum!

By Ginvest

from Orovada, NV

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

This is our second Dirt Devil vacuum. The first one lasted 4 1/2 years and it only broke because I accidentally dropped and broke the dirt canister. We are full time 5th wheel RVers and we need something small. The previous vac had the folding handle and it was a 10 amp motor. The main reason why we bought this vac was because of its size and retracting handle. So I can only compare this vac to our previous vac. This new vac has a 7 amp motor which is not as powerful at the previous vac so it does take slightly longer to pick up the dirt and dog hairs. But it does pick it up. The canister is very easy to empty and there is no annoying filter in the canister that has to be cleaned. This is very lightweight and just perfect for my 95lb wife to use. It is very small and fits easily in the closet. This just as good if not better than other bigger, heavier, and more expensive vacuums. It is perfect for an RV and for any small rooms. The best features are the extendable/collapsible handle, lightweight, and ease of emptying the dirt canister. I highly recommend this vacuum.

Great Buy

By andij1004

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

This is a great vacuum. I had vacuumed the carpeting with my old vacuum the morning I received this one. Wanting to try it out right away, I decided to vacuum again. Wow! Not only did it pull cat hair out of the carpet that my old one didn't get, but also pulled so much dirt out of the rug, that is was lighter in color. The vacuum is light weight, and very easy to store. Great value, great product!

Works for me

By familyman

from Dallas, TX, United States

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

This device is light, easy to handle. It seems to work regardless of surface, carpet or tile or wood. My old vacuum needs to do a gear switch for different surface. This one does not. Sucking power is sufficient I believe. Only complain is the noise. It is a little louder than my previous one.

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

We have owned this vacuum for a few weeks. Our old vacuum still works however, was lacking power. I didn't want to drop several hundred dollars into something like our old model. My wife purchased this vacuum on Amazon for about $40. This thing is unreal! We vacuum regularly and when we put this unit to the test, I was suprised to se the amount of dirt and debris that was being left behind by our old vacuum. Although a small canister it was filling itself up on every room in our house and needing emptied, which was no choir to do. Can't say enough great thing about this vacuum and the price. The only reason I post 4 stars on quality is because this vacuum is a little noisy, but for the $$ you CANNOT pass this deal up.

Almost Great

By Dunkel

from Camano Island, WA, United States

Comments about Dirt Devil Upright BaglessVacuum (UD20015):

The suction is awesome...as good or better than any vacuum I've had for way more money. Great for pet hair. I have an older dog that loses a lot of tufts of fur and it sucks it all up really well. The best I've ever had as far as sucking up large items too...actually unbelievable in that department. I really love the bottom release when emptying the dirt. The price is great. It's very light weight. I have two problems with the vacuum. 1. The cord is too short...you should really have a cord long enough for at least one large room. I don't think you should have to unplug and re-plug the cord while in the same room. 2. The bristles in the bottom are too soft...too soft to give the carpet that nice freshly vacuumed "raked up" look. I suppose if you have really soft wood floors or something, and are worried about scuffing them, this might be okay, but if your floors are that soft, the plastic wheels would scuff them up worse anyway. Overall though it's a machine well worth the price.

All the same motor, power, ect as Bissel Work force model. Except wheels need bearings and metal. Plastic on plastic parts are a bad idea. Great, easy to use, light weight, easy assembly, good vacuum.
