If your built-in shelving is looking a little blah, you can bring it back to life with a dramatic new hue that creates a striking sense of style. Ace can help make this project easy with the paint, supplies and expert advice you need.

What You'll Need:

  • Clark+Kensington®
    interior paint
  • Primer
  • Paintbrushes
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint roller
  • Paint tray and liner
  • Painter's tape
  • Drop cloth
  • Damp rag

Before you begin your makeover, lay the drop cloth down in front of the shelving to protect the floor and tape off any areas that you're not going to refinish.

Next, take the sandpaper and sand the areas you're going to paint to smooth them down, then wipe them clean with a damp rag.

Start your new finish with a coat of primer, carefully covering all the surfaces you plan on painting. Once the primer is dry, pour some Clark+Kensington® paint Dark Diversion 37B-7 into the tray and apply the first coat, using the roller on the larger areas and the brush for corners, edges and tight spaces. Apply a second coat once the first is completely dry. When you're done, carefully remove the tape before your new color has finished drying to create crisp, clean paint lines.

Helpful Tip:

Protect your paint tray with a disposable plastic liner to make cleanup easier

The end result is a bold and beautiful new look that you can be proud to say you created yourself. All it takes is inspiration and a little bit of effort, plus some help from your neighborhood experts at Ace.

If your home was built prior to 1978, check for lead-based paint before you sand or scrape any painting surfaces. Call 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead for more information.
