In theory the design should prevent the flag from wrapping around the pole. It doesn't. And I'm not really sure why. I know I replaced the nylon screws right away with stainless screws that were shorter and had a smaller head to help prevent tangling. Still didn't soilve the problem.

The ring cracked when I was trying to tighten the hand screw. The plastic screw is too high causing the rotating ring snag the flag wraps around the pole. I ended up cutting off the screw sleeve flush with the ring and used a low profile screw in place of the original plastic screw. After the modification, the thing works perfectly!
