About Hex Wrenches & Keys
Hex keys and allen wrenches are essentially the same tools. The “key” end of allen keys is a hexagon, or six-sided, shape. Many items requiring assembly, including some furniture, certain children’s wagons and other gear, use hex head screws to secure matching parts together.
Hex wrenches are typically in the shape of an “L” and can be purchased in the singular size your project requires or in sets. Hex or allen wrench sets are nice to have around since chances are when you need a specific size hex key, you’ll have the right one on hand. Since the tool’s “L” shape can be awkward to hold at times, hex keys with handles or even combo folding sets make them easier to maneuver.
