This unit just doesn't quit. 2013-14 winter was really snowy. I could throw snow to the top of the piles about 5 ft. high and as far as 30 feet. Many single stage gas blowers were having problems. You really don't lose much at 18" wide because you can go so fast without clogging. It is lightweight, maneuverable and economical. You don't have to buy gas or oil, simply plug it in and go. I hope it lasts another 8 years!

Massachusetts has been hit with a LOT of snow this month (or week really). I am exhausted from shoveling my driveway (about 150 feet long) almost daily and decided to get a snowblower, but I was a bit intimidated by the large gas machines so I bought this one.

It throws the snow well but it was a lot of work to push it through my somewhat uneven driveway (some cracks and ice build-up from previous snowfall while we were away). I struggled to clear the driveway with it. And I am novice snowblower user so I may not have the best technique.

Also I found the design of the handle very ineffective. I do not have a lot of hand strength and it was very difficult to grip this properly to keep the motor engaged. I think they should design it with the lever on top of the handle so the weight of your hand or pressure of pushing could keep it engaged. I'm assuming a large man designed this and they didn't have any women test it!

I am returning it and getting a gas powered one with self-propulsion. In spite of the inconvenience of the cord, the fact it doesn't blow moving backwards, and the difficulty pushing it, I would keep this is if weren't for the handle grip. A simple redesign of that would make it so much easier to use! That handle design is a deal-breaker for me.

Comments about Toro® 18in Electric Power Curve Snow Thrower (38381):

Love it. Bought new and used at least 12 seasons, maybe 15 (don't know when it first came out). Same model still available! Used with heavy (14 ga) cord-recommended! Cord a bit awkward, but it really can handle a full 12" with a good throw. Several times used for very deep (18" snow) by holding handle while I skimmed off top 6" or so. That's why I like its light weight. Great machine. Only problem is no good place to pull it backwards w/o turning on the power. I'd prefer wheels a bit larger, too.

I bought this 2 yrs. ago. I was tired of shoveling the driveway. It works great and we have had some deep snows. It has saved my back. It cleans the driveway and sidewalks off in 1/2 the time.

There was some minor assembly required- which was easy. I was surprised how light the snowblower was and how well it worked. I've used it twice so far. And I wonder why I didn't get one of these sooner. Hardly weighs more than the snow shovel, but so nice that it saves all the lifting and tossing of shovelfuls of snow! Now if I can just figure out a quicker way to manage the extension cord from getting tangles!

I bought this thrower and 2 days later we had an 8-inch wet snowfall. While it was slower going, as compared to a 2-stage blower, it managed to clear my double drive way very nicely. It threw the snow well. The cord was not problematic. I bought it because I am over sixty and can't handle a large machine. I would recommend this machine to anyone.

Bought one of these a few years back and it has been a lifesaver. I used it the other day after the blizzard and it worked fine. I had to knock down the giant snowdrifts with a shovel, but other than that it easily handled the job. The only thing that would make it better would be a cordless electric version. Then I wouldn't have to worry about power outages rendering it useless.

Bought it this year hoping that it would help and it works great. Just used it during the big blizzard in the northeast. I am petite and have a small driveway so I did not want to bother with a bigger machine. It was easy to assemble and easy to start and figure out how to use. Having a power cord can be a pain but I figured out a way to keep it behind me. I used it a couple of times during the storm and it clears well. I did have to clear off some of the snow as we had big drifts but it does go through about 12" as described. Definitely saved me 1/2 the time. Perfect for smaller driveways and those who may not want to maneuver larger machines.

I got this for a Christmas present and do not have the receipts, talked to toro and they told me that without receipts I'm out of luck nothing they can do,is there anything else they can help me with? Didn't know how to respond to that one and still nstaying CIVIL.

Serves as added bonus for me to use instead of shoveling while waiting for snow removal company to do our driveways. I have owned a Toro snow blower before and they are very dependable and built to last.

Long Island got hit with several storms and we are not done yet. I was amazed at how easy this was to use. I dealt with the deep snow by tipping the machine back and taking a layer off at a time. It did take me some time to this, but it sure beat the heck out of shoveling and getting a heart attack.

The hard plastic housing is great as I could get up next to the tires and it didn't damage the tires in any way. Not one scratch.

Turning this around was a piece of cake. One hand.... pick up the whole machine and point it where you want to go.

The only tools needed to put it together was a pair of scissors. I had to cut the ends off the anchor ties after securing the electric cord to the handle.

This might not be the right machine for a big burley guy, but for this great grandmother it worked great.

Mine only lasted 2 seasons for some reason but I do plan on buying another today. I took too much/big of a swipe of wet and crusty snow that had road salt in it which may have overloaded the motor.

This machine will save you a lot of work. It will handle 10-12" of snow but the first strip will be hard beccause you have to push it through the snow. After the first path it's easier if you take subsequent bites that are 1/2 to 3/4 the width of the machine.

I've used this for 9 years and it has held up well in all kinds of snow including the 30" of snow we had last year - that was not easy but I got through it.

The machine is well worth purchasing. A great time saver. Would buy again.
                          Would prefer:
A rechargeable battery pack to avoid dragging a cord.
A reverse switch to allow blowing while backing up.
A wider swath and most of all
Not to have to hold the handle switch with both hands all the time. As a righty, My left lower arm stifffens badly afer an hour's use.

I am a woman in her 70's who decided to do her own instead of paying a fortune to have it done. This little machine works great and is really fun to use. If it is real windy it doesn't matter how big the machine is, it is not fun. lol Anyway I would advise anyone who has short double drive and little sidewalk to buy one of these. I purchased mine last winter and not much snow but I am sure that will come living here in SD.

So glad I purchased it. Works well for a "small" thrower.
Starting wasn't too difficult. Love it...

Couple years ago we bought a used gas powered blower because I didn't want to spend $300 or $400 on a unit that wouldn't clear more than 4"-5". It ended up being super overkill, so I never really used it.

This year, we bought this one and it is surprisingly powerful. I'm more than happy with it, cuts through everything we need, just be sure you don't get the cord caught in the blower.

For a 2 car driveway, I don't think there's anything more you need. I wouldn't go much less power, but this'll do just about all you need.

One of the best home use products I have ever bought. It is perfect for the home owner with an average amount of sidewalk and driveway for which an expensive gas blower is over kill. It is powerful enough for close to a foot of snow. Other electric blowers tend to be a little to weak. The machine can be easily lifted and carried with one arm. The blower tube easily rotates to any needed position. If you have even a little positive attitude using this is down right fun.

I am a 67 year old female who is using this type of equipment for the first time in my life. I decided I needed help this year other than a shovel. I tried a heavier gas driven snow blower and could not handle it. When I used this electric start snow thrower, I immediately felt that it was very manageable in clearing my driveway. Then I cleared a path just above the grass for the Mail Carrier as the snow was so deep. The cost was also manageable. I am very glad I purchased this particular machine.
