Ace Foundation

At Ace, we pride ourselves on being the helpful place. We believe in giving back to the communities we do business in, and what better way than supporting those who shop our store. Since 1991 Ace has been a proud partner of Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals and the American Red Cross. Through our Ace stores, vendor partners and corporate team members, we have raised over $71 million for CMN Hospitals and have continued to support the American Red Cross through product donations when a disaster strikes.

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds and awareness for 154 member hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to kids across the U.S. and Canada. Donations stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, and support research and training, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

There are many ways in which our Ace stores support CMN Hospitals. Whether your local Ace store participates in the icon and/or bucket promotion, has a change canister at the register, or hosts a fundraising event, 100 percent of the money raised at that store will stay in that specific community, benefiting the closest CMN Hospital. So stop in your local Ace store or donate online by clicking on the "Donate Now" button.

As part of Ace's fundraising efforts, each year an official national Ace All-Star is chosen to serve as ambassador for Ace's fundraising programs across the country. The 2016 Ace All-Star is Kasey Harvey, a cancer survivor and patient at Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego. Look for photos of Kasey in your local store this year.

Kasey Harvey: Beating Cancer

Kasey Harvey was an athletic, active 14-year old and a star goalie for her travel soccer team. But in November 2014 Kasey and her family's lives turned upside down. Kasey thought she was coming down with a cold, but when the symptoms continued, her parents were concerned that she wasn't getting better and took her to Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego. Dr. Wen Jiang, an ear, nose and throat specialist, suspected a severe sinus infection and performed a biopsy to determine the antibiotics to prescribe. To rule out other causes of Kasey's symptoms, the tissue was also sent to pathology.

Kasey was diagnosed with an aggressive, fast-growing cancer called an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma that was found in the maxillary sinus below her left eye. Her treatment involved both chemotherapy and proton radiation therapy, which uses targeted radiation to kill cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue.

Kasey endured nearly a year of chemotherapy and proton radiation. During the treatment, with the support of her parents, she began doing everything she could to stay strong. In the weight room at their home, Kasey followed a regimen of cardio and resistance exercises. She went on a diet plan and began doing yoga.

"Instead of lying in bed, I worked out, helping my heart and lungs," Kasey says.

Kasey finished her chemotherapy and proton radiation treatments on Oct. 9, 2015. The next day, after her final imaging scans, she was declared to be in remission.

Throughout her ordeal, Kasey never lost hope. She now wants to use her story to inspire others and show that no one has to fight alone. Her family's motto during her treatment was "Losing is not an option." Today, the family is proud to say: "Kasey Harvey beat cancer - losing was not an option."

The Ace Foundation, through the generosity of P&G and Duracell, made a $10,000 donation to Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego in Kasey's name when she was crowned the 2016 Ace All-Star on January 25, 2016.

At the Ace Hardware Corporate/Ace Foundation office located in Oak Brook, IL, team members get involved with fundraising activities for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in a variety of ways.

Fleece Blanket Club
For the past three years, nearly 50 employees gather in groups or work individually making "no sew" fleece blankets for the patients at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago - the CMN hospital closest to the corporate office. To date, over 400 blankets have been delivered to bring a sense of caring and warmth to kids enduring hospital stays.

Miracle Jeans Weeks
When business casual is the everyday attire, Ace team members get excited to wear jeans for an entire week during the company's five designated Miracle Jeans Weeks each year. With a cost of $1 per day and nearly 900 people on campus, it's no doubt that thousands are raised annually from this one initiative.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago Radiothon
Each September, The MIX radio DJs, Eric and Kathy, spend 36 hours at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago sharing stories about patients as well as the good work of the hospital and their dedicated staff. Ace team members are always eager to volunteer at the event by answering phones and taking pledges from callers who are listening in.

As a national company with members in more than 4,400 domestic locations, it's no surprise that members of our own Ace family have experienced the often-devastating effects of a natural disaster. The Ace Hardware Foundation is proud to partner with the American Red Cross to support our neighbors in times of need. Since 1991 we have donated over $1 million to the Red Cross through monetary and in-kind donations.

Ready When the Time Comes
Currently, there are 25 Oak Brook, Ill.-based Ace team members trained by the Red Cross to handle shelter work in the event of disaster. Their responsibilities range from setting up cots and registering people, to mass feeding and just lending an ear to those who need comfort. Certain disasters, such as fires, floods and blizzards, can happen locally, while others can take place far away, like the earthquake in Haiti. In any of the cases, American Red Cross shelters provide housing and food for thousands of people annually.
