I bought this waffle maker a few weeks ago, but just used it today. It does cook the waffles too long if you follow the ready light, it practically burnt them, and the waffles were always in the top of the waffle maker, not the bottom, but they didnt stick. so i decreased the time to about 2.5 mins and it was a little better and the waffles stayed in the bottom part. After about 6 to 7 uses, the hinge on the right side broke, i noticed how flimsy it seemed to be, so i was really careful, and very gentle when closing it, i also used a pot holder, because the cool touch handles got kind of hot. The waffle maker still seems to shut with the hinge on the right side broken, but i still unplugged it and let it cool down, the extra batter is still sitting there. Are there replacement hinges i can buy separate to replace the broken ones? I think that once i can get the time right and the broken hinge fixed (im good at improvising), this waffle maker will probably be a good buy!

I received this waffle maker for Christmas. I followed the instructions carefully. Cleaned and oiled for first use, even threw away first waffle as per instructions. I used it on four occassions making 4 waffles each time. Using same technique each time, the waffles don't always turn out the same. Some are more done than others, so don't look for perfect waffle every time here. There is a crevice between the handle and the hot plate, the batter always finds its way in there and there is no easy way to clean that. My biggest complaint with this waffle maker is the plastic hinges broke off on both sides. If I weren't a mechanical engineer I would have thrown the thing away, but I used some unsused bolts from a toilet seat hinge and I'm still making waffles. BTW I'm not sure if the handles come off, they used what appears to be some kind of H shaped head screw or fastener. If it stops making waffles I will investigate further.

Love these waffles but the nonstick is coming off

By Jill

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

My family lives the size and thickness of these waffles. This is our second waffle maker like this one. We have only had it maybe 6 months and now the black from the nonstick surface is coming off on my waffles. I have to throw this machine away now!

Worked well for the first few morning I used it (usually on weekends). Then more and more often the batter would stick to the plates. It's totally useless now!!

Good and bad

By Granddad Waffle Maker

from Summerville, SC, United States

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

We have 2 WMB500 Belgian Waffle Makers. The first one we bought, after a few uses the plastic hinge pivots broke and the waffle maker just doesn't make waffles that easily now. We bought another WMB500, I can make 2-3 waffles then the waffles stick and tear apart when we try to open the top. I have used non-stick spray to finish making the waffles needed. If I could get new hinge pivots the first waffle maker would be good (it did not stick and tear the waffles).

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I bought this about 2 hours ago got home and was super excited to use it, put the batter in and when it was finished I opened it and the waffle was stuck to the plates. You need a crowbar to get the batter off... non-stick my ... It took an 3 hours to clean, a complete nightmare, next time get the more expensive version.

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I bought one years ago. Loved it. Iy unfortunately broke (hinges). I repurchased it 2 weeks ago and there is no comparison. It is not heating up well. The waffles get dark but are like a pancake and breaks. I'm really disappointed.

Yummy waffles

By Lola

from Florida

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I have had my Black and Decker Belgian Waffle Maker for almost 7 years. It has served it's purpose well. my only complaint is that it doesn't have a reservoir for overflow. Because I like LOTS of batter. Also...After years of opening and closing... The little plastic pins or knobs in the hinge are worn out/cracked. This makes the top lid wiggle a bit too much. I will probably buy another one unless I could buy those parts to fix it. The griddles are well seasoned and the waffle maker is always a huge hit when my grand babies are around! THANK YOU Black & Decker.

Would not recommend at all.

By Bill Z

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I have used it 3 times with the same result. Top doughie, bottom over cooked and it sticks even after spraying with vegetable spray. See pic. Very unsatisfied. Throwing this way and finding a different brand. I wish I had my mothers old one 1960 I should have changed the plug.

Not Useable

By Consumer1995

from Regina, SK, Canada

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

Got this waffle maker for Christmas and went to use it for the first time this morning (Valentines Day). The elements under the cooking plates would not heat up past a "mild warm to the touch", even after leaving it plugged in before cooking for 30 minutes . The warming light would never stay on, as per the instruction booklet. Ruined morning brunch with the family.

Thought it was great until...

By Tootsies

from Huntington Beach, CA, United States

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

This morning made my one waffle and noticed what I thought was a bit of dough on the plates. I proceeded to wipe it gently with a paper towel when I saw it was getting worse and realized the black non-stick finish was coming off. Now I must worry that I ingested some of the black. This is after maybe 2 years of intermittent use and only one waffle per use.

Very Poor Waffle Maker

By refusmojo

from Indianapolis, IN, United States

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I bought this waffle maker and the hinges broke on the first attempt to make waffles. I wrote Black and Decker and they sent me replacement plastic hinges which broke upon first use. I fashions my own hinges from 1/2 inch dowel rods which worked well then I find that it doesn't cook evenly, that is, one half cooked while the other half barely cooked and even after five minutes of cooking still not done. This is a terrible product and I wish I never purchased it.

As far as cooking goes, this waffle iron did well. Unfortunately, after a few uses the plastic at the end of the hinge, which kept the two sides firmly together without wobbling, broke.

Trouble

By The House Cook

from Davenport, FL

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I have had this item for about a year and have used it about 10 times. I took it out today and a piece fell off. When I checked it both plastic tabs that hold the 2 halves together fell apart. I am disappointed at the cheapness of construction of a crucial point in the product. Now to see if it is worth fixing or if I should just buy a new one from a different brand.

By annb

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

We have purchased two of these waffle makes months apart at two separate stores and each time the hinge has broken the very first time we used them. We thought the first time was just an isolated incident, and were annoyed to have the second one do the same thing! Checked on Google and there are numerous reports from others about the very same thing. Product needs to be recalled and problem solved before placing them on the market again.

Hinges and Hinge Caps break too easily

By DallasCajun

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

We bought this product to start making homemade waffles, and after our first use, we were pleased. But I also noticed (AFTER ONE USE) that both hinge caps had fallen out as they were sitting next to the appliance on the shelf. Then after the second use, the top piece was completely disconnected from the bottom unit. Hinges had either broken or also fallen out. Now it's not like this is an appliance that gets banged around. It got used, wiped/cleaned, and put back on the shelf. If you go to the Customer Care-> Parts section for it, the ONLY parts available are the Hinges and Hinge Caps. Coincidence? Probably Not. And the fact that those parts costs MORE than the unit did is a joke. B&D needs to replace those free of charge. The unit works as advertised, but very low quality on the secondary parts. I would not buy the hinges or a replacement unit...I'll buy another brand.

Hinge Problem

By AJEvyDar

from Columbia, SC

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

The unit makes great waffles. However, one of the plastic hinges broke after just a couple of uses. I continued to use the product, being careful to gently open/close the lid, lining it up straight. Now the other half of the hinge has fallen out - appears to be a plastic plug. I am very disappointed. I really like the size of the waffle maker and the ease of cleanup. The plastic hinge is a weak point and I hope to get it repaired/replaced under warranty.

Comments about Black & Decker® Round Belgian Waffle Baker (WMB505):

I bought this to make my kids some waffles. It worked great the first time, but when I went to clean it up, the hinge pins melted/broke out of the hinge. It still works, but the wires are holding the top on...not a great design. If you want a GOOD waffle maker...pass this one up!
