I didn't buy these for trimming branches, though I am sure they would work great for this.
I bought them to slice in half those raw chestnuts in the shell that they sometimes sell around Christmas. Very tough to open! The serrated anvil keeps them from popping out, and the blade slices right through them.
Also found that they are good for cutting/cleaving those big cough drops in halves or quarters. Works perfectly for this!
