The duct pieces fit together as designed in less than 5 minutes. Yes, the tube sizes are the same. This is by design and they slide together easily and leave little or no gap for leaks. Takes up less space than flexible hose.

This was purchased to make a dryer connection in a narrow space. It is not space saving and take nearly as much space as regular dryer ducting. And it took two people at least half an hour and multiple techniques to assemble. (You have two identically sized pieces and one is supposed to slide inside the other). Total waste of money.
