Just installed this item on my water heater. The instructions are not very clear--they don't tell you why each step is important--and are confusing--they need one set of instructions for gas and a separate set for electric, not combined.
The provided tape is terrible. It was all crumpled and creased. Very difficult to separate the tape from the covering. When using the long piece that covers the seam, the covering paper tore multiple times, making it difficult to deal with. I ended up using my own tape.
I assume the actual insulation will work, but the installation issues could have been easily corrected with clearer instructions and a higher quality tape, for which I would have gladly paid an extra few cents.

Does not fit most gas hot water heaters. I have a 50 gallon gas unit which is 60 inches around and this unit is only 48. Fact is, most gas units on the market today are 60 inches around.

I bought this on the way home from work and installed it within a half hour. By the time I was finished installing it, when I tucked my hand between the heater and the blanket, it was quite toasty in there.
I've heard that a water heater blanket can save up to $10 a month in utility bills. If this is so, this is one improvement that will pay for itself in very little time.

Like all of these so-called insulation blankets, this one doesn't fit the average-sized 60-gal. (18" dia./60" circum.) water heater. Even if one cuts and pastes, the size isn't enough to cover the heater surface. It's better and cheaper to buy material in bulk and use packing tape to get a better result.
