As the previous reviewer said the pump is not self priming. But it is easy to fill up with a cup and it works great. The brushes do wear out eventually but it would take a long time with normal use. Mine is used to drain barrels of rain water and my pool cover.

Pump is not self priming (that's why there's a plug on top);
Unit is loud and has piercing whine. Then one day it doesn't run and it needs brushes (which you have to order from the factory)...if brushes are a consumable, ACE should carry them.
This pump needs too much maintenance for my needs....
