Comments about Corona® Compound Action Bypass Lopper (AL4110):
I use this lopper to prune willows that have overgrown hiking trails. The powerful compound mechanism easily cuts through large willow stems while at the same time cutting tiny shoots if the blade is sharp. Ideally the cut is made just above the root and the long reach makes that easier.
I found it best to sharpen the lopper about every hour using the Corona pocket carbide sharpener. A few strokes removed burrs and put a razor edge on the blade. The same compound mechanism that makes cutting so easy puts enormous stress on the cutting edge quickly dulling the blade.
I had no problem with a gap opening between the blade and hook, but the long handles would put great torque on the blade and hook if you were to bend them during the cut. Care should be exercised to cleanly close the handles without side twisting.
Based on my first few days of use, I expect this lopper to last years with just frequent sharpening as the only maintenance.
Pros
- Comfortable Grip
- Lightweight
Cons
- Flimsy
- Not durable
Best Uses
- Trimming Bushes
Comments about Corona® Compound Action Bypass Lopper (AL4110):
I thought Corona was a higher end brand, but these loppers are clearly a low end product (I guess to be expected at the low price). They are simply not strong enough to repeatedly cut branches over 1". My pair has warped somehow so that now there is a large enough gap between the blades that they often don't cut smaller branches cleanly but leave some of the bark holding the pieces together and jamming up the loppers. So, if they can't cut 1' to 1-1/2" stuff, why carry the extra weight and deal with opening them twice as wide (required by compound design). Also, the blade does not hold an edge well--I have already had to resharpen it a few times in the month or so I have had them.
