The pH test seems to have an effervescent quality to it that pushes suspended dirt and debris down making it easier to see the color. I wish the nitrogen, phosphorus and Potassium tests were the same. Also color of the pH, nitrogen and phosphorus tests are easy to see, even with dingy water. The potassium is hard to see because its brown/orange....so is my dirt. Would be better if it came with a way to filter the water before testing to remove dirt and suspended debris. If you don't mind letting your soil and water sample sit for an hour before testing and then letting your test tubes sit for another hour before reading the color, this kit works well. For someone needing to test their own soil, this worked pretty good. Could be better though.

This is a quick and inexpensive way to determine what is going on beneath the surface of your garden. Plants that were doing well in my new flower beds last year are not doing well at all this year - they are looking pale green and in some spots rapidly turning yellow. At first I thought it might be over-watering but with the moisture meter found that not to be the case. After using the soil test kit I found out that everything in the soil was perfect except for the nitrogen level, which turned out to be severely deficient. If I didn't have this test kit I would have never known or even guessed this. I added a nitrogen only product to the beds and within a couple days time I have seen an improvement in the plants! It was well worth the time and money I spent on this soil test kit so that I was able to save all the plants that I spent a lot of money on.

Very easy to use. I recommend taking a day to let your soil samples dry. This makes for easier mixing.
