This lock works well, but in combination-reset mode (you've opened the lock, rotated the shackle, and pressed it down), the dials will continue to spin allowing you to set 1 of 10,000 codes. But, only upon pulling up the shackle (so that it can rotate freely 360 degrees) does that actually set the dials. That said, you may have thought it was on a number - say 0-0-0-0 but if one of them was between 0 and 1, or 9 and 0, the act of pulling up the shackle would set it to the closest digit, perhaps pulling the number around to be 0-0-9-0, for example.
Like most of these style locks, by gently pulling upward on the shackle as you rotate the combination reels, you will feel that some numbers let the shackle pull up, while other numbers pull it back down. Through this process, repeating on all 4 reels, you will get your combination, and be able to reset the lock to a known combination.
Before you panic about that defeating the lock, consider that no lock is 100% foolproof, and if someone wanted it open badly enough, they can cut it with a small pair of bolt cutters anyways.

I've had this lock for about a year and it's been quite functional. I usually keep it in a gym bag and put it on a locker in the mornings. I came to this website b/c it somehow changed it's own combo -ie, the numbers were off and the lock was open, I pulled it further and now cant get it to work. I came to this site to get the instructions and they're apparently not here. ACE--please have a link for your products.
