I have owned a smokey joe in the past. It had a vent in the bottom And would draw well and stay lit. This one will not. I will be returning it shortly. The lid lock works very well. If this had a vent in the bottom I would be happy.

Just bought this 2.5 weeks ago, and we've grilled on it a few times. So far so good! I wish it had an ash tray at the bottom like the silver model, but carrying the grill to dump out ashes isn't that big of a hassle. It seems to fill up after 2 or 3 or grill sessions. I really like the bar for holding the lid. Easy to assemble.. since you don't need as many coals as a full-sized grill, it only takes about 10 minutes until you're ready to start cooking. It's just me and my boyfriend, and the size is perfect unless we're cooking meat, veggies, and sides on the grill.

The Gold Series has a " bale" that keeps the lid on the grill when it's stored, or moved. Great for camping or lunch on a road trip. As always none of the " low price leaders" had none in stock, or no clue how to get one so we just ordered it from Ace and had it shipped to the store. They saved the day, Again!!!

I purchased this iteam first for its dog proof features;
1-the locking lid and 2- its low to the ground and has less of a chance to get knocked over. Apon opening the box I was impressed with the high quailty and weight of the materials used in the making of this product and expect to get many years of enjoyment using this grill. During use and eating my meal I was thrilled with the flavore produced from the smoker/grill combination. This product lives up to its name Smokey Joe Gold. I will continue to look for other Weber products when thinking about grilling needs. I do recomend using a combonation of harwood brikets for flavore with soft dry wood for a continouse low burn. Sincerly, one happy customer

Poke around on the internet for a while and you'll find that this is one of the best portable grills you can get for any price. I ordered one and I love it. M[...] Every store has the Smokey Joe Silver, which is $5 cheaper but lacks all the features that make the Gold so great. It's too bad, because everyone ends up saving $5 and missing out on all the great qualities that the Gold has over the Silver. All that being said, it's worth ordering.
