Used this kit in the hallway after seeing it on TV. Once you find the joists, you're in business!!! Floor is silent (hasn't been that way since I moved in) and the carpet doesn't show any marks where I drilled (be careful not to catch carpet fibers with the snapped-off screw when you pull it out). If the floors still squeak, you've either missed the joist or it's at a seam in the plywood and you've only tightened down one side...put a screw in next to it (step on either side of the screw to determine which side to screw down) to take care of the other piece of plywood. Wife is getting tired of hearing about how great this kit is.

First off I ordered the " Zinc die cast alignment depth tool" and a plastic one came. Was not very happy about that but I needed to repair a squeaky floor in my 1 and 3 year old girls rooms in a bad way so I kept it. Second I found that the depth tool was sinking the screws to far below the sub flooring and not holding correctly (still squeaking). So I abondoned the depth tool all together and eyeballed it with a much better result. With the variations in carpet material thickness and padding material thickness the depth tool couldn't possibly work on all applications. The screws themselves I would give a 5 out of 5. The fact that I got a plastic depth tool instead of the zinc one advertised and the performance of the depth tool its self is the reason I gave it a 2.

Comments about Squeeeeek No More® Kit (3233):
"Squeeeeek No More" needs to be redesigned. Apparently, it is made of the cheapest, flimsiest materials to reduce costs. But it just cost them a customer forever. The stud finder bits either start-out warped or they warp at the least provocation (they should be made the best, since they are reused often). The ads and packaging make it sound fool-proof; then the instructions state that there are instances when it won't work (like old squeaks). Lame. This is gotchya at it's worst.

Comments about Squeeeeek No More® Kit (3233):
I used these to silent squeaks in my carpeted den and hallway. The hallway was so bad I would always walk along the opposite side of the hallway to try to avoid the squeaking. The den was almost as bad. The squeaks were on either side of the wall dividing the hall and den. I located the first joist next to a heat vent using the finder tool and located the others by measuring as instructed. My house has floor joist trusses which are 19.25 inches apart, not the normal 16 inches. Anyway, squeaks are almost (95%) gone now. These things really work.

Found the joist with the joist finder tool and spaced 4 inches apart as the instructions said. Drove the screws down through the adapter as the instructions said. Not only did it not work, it didn't even help quiet the squeaks.

Comments about Squeeeeek No More® Kit (3233):
I finally quieted the squeaks in my hardwood floor! I had a problem with a couple of screws breaking off above the floor. I believe the wood in my house (60+ years old) has hardened over time, so I wound up drilling 1/8" holes for the screws, 2-1/2" deep, instead of going with the instructions, which as I recall, said to drill the hole 1" deep. In any event, once I sorted it out, they worked great. In fact, I'm on my way to buy another pack of 50.

Comments about Squeeeeek No More® Kit (3233):
Worked great on my carpeted floors and easy to use. No more creaking floors. The toughest part of the whole process was finding the joists, but once you get the hang of that, it's a breeze and only takes seconds to finish the job

- Cinch to use and it works

Cons

Comments about Squeeeeek No More® Kit (3233):
immediately reduced squeak by ~90% by finding the joist and driving the screws into the oak floor, sub floor, and joist as directed. Suggestions on finding joist were excellent and well as using the product.
I purchased the kit as an experiment after four different attempts to rid the squeaks failed. Since it worked so well, I ordered an additional 100 screws to finish the job.
One caution, however, if you miss the joist, the screw may just spin and/or not be effective in reducing squeaks.
- Recommended:
- a square to keep on the joist once you find it

Now, we can put our baby to sleep and walk out of the room without the floor squeaking and waking her up! We were hesitant about putting screws into our hardwood floors, but it worked great and the holes can be easily filled with wood putty.
