Can not believe such a sturydy mail box has such a poorly designed latch - actually no latch - just a door closure handle - door does not latch to box.

I ordered the black mailbox # 3 size for a business. Didn't get the plastic latch but a metal one. Very sturdy & haven't had any problems with anything. Received it 4/17/09. Doesn't get mail wet unless the mailperson doesn't close the door all the way. Great mailbox. Not sure why there is a plastic latch now.

This mailbox is worthless without a good latch.

The latch is plastic and gives out in short time allowing the door to flop open all the time and the mail gets wet. Called Solar and they changed the latch a couple of years ago (still same cheap plastic just a different shape) and no replacement is even available for "older ones" which is about 3 years. They could care if you don't like it, real jerks. You can't order on internet or telephone you have to print parts form and write a check and mail to them if they still make the part you need. Sorry Outfit.

Just like previous comments, box is fine other than paint fades in the Texas Sun but the latch is plastic junk. I would look for a better box but it is built into a stone post and replacement is not practical. Have been to 3 stores and none stock replacement latches, want to sell new boxes!

When the wimpy latch breaks, the door swings open and exposes the mail to weather. You would think the manufacture would offer a latch for an accessory for this mailbox. Instead they designed a wimpy latch, so when it breaks, you have to buy a new mailbox.

Once the plastic latch broke loose from the metal body, repair was futile. Will be replacing this mailbox with the next grade up, which has metal latch. Otherwise, this has been a beautiful, serviceable mailbox... but without a latch, the door swings open and exposes the mail to weather.
