Ok, I bought this for rats because it came up on a search for rat and trap. However, Ace's ad does not claim it works for rats, but the word "rat" shows up 7 times in the page from words like "RATing" and "corpoRATion", and ads for other rat products, so I was not careful enough. I put this review in case others might be expecting a rat trap from confusing search results. Its half the size it needs to be for rats, so be a better reader than i was if you want "rat" traps. (now the magic word is here like a dozen times....)

i got this trap because i had a problem mice eating my horse saddles in my barn. i set the trap beside the hole i seen one go into. within 30 minutes of setting it with oatmeal,birdseed and peanut butter i had caught 2 mice. the only problem i had was i almost got bit when i was moving the trap with the mice in it. but other than that this is by far in my opinion a great product

This past week, a mouse got into my house from the back door, and would not go into the Tin Cat trap I had previously used in my garage. Although the Havahart mouse trap was a bit tricking getting the doors to hook into the bait hook, inside of 3 days, it caught the mouse. I discovered he/she had moved down to the basement, so I put the trap there. Within 24 hours, the mouse was caught, and re-located to a wooded area several miles from my house. I am very pleased with this purchase, and plan to use it in the garage during the fall. I used chunky peanut butter for bait.
