Just bought two of these to replace one I finally broke after 7 years of use.The pointed end of this wedge allows you to get it started in the wood much easier than a standard wedge. Does the job right, and that's all that I ask!

Like any wedge, the longer the log, the harder to split. However, I've found the Grenade to be superior to any I've used in the past. I love the way a log will split into three or four pieces when split at the heart.

I started using this wedge when I was in my 50s. I was amazed at how it let me split either pine or oak with a minimum of effort. I had a very large wood rack, and I filled it in no time. Actually got to where I looked forward to using it, and my hands are arthritic.

I start the wedge with a three pound hammer, then split the block with an 18 pound sledge.
I have used this method for years on all types of wood, from pine to maple.
It does not split in multiple pieces most of the time.

This wedge is easy to set and destroys pine rounds. I have not used it on hard woods, so I can't comment there. The only problen is I have broken two of them. I hand split about 5 cords of wood a year and would prefer this over a two sided wedge any day.

This wedge does not perform any better than a traditional hand wedge and sledge hammer. Wants to bounce back while attempting a "set". Can easily get stuck or bind in the log requiring a second wedge to free it.
