The glass on my gas fireplace had not been cleaned in a couple of years. Needless to say, there was a lot of "white" that was baked on. Tried the normal fireplace glass cleaners. None worked. Bought a product called "Clear Flame". It did nothing. Tried this stuff as a last resort. Took some elblow grease and a couple of applications, but it took off all the "white"' Highly recommend.

Having neglected to clean the inside of the gas fireplace glass for at least 2 years, I knew it would be a tough job. Ordinary glass cleaner removed the powdery soot but left behind a cloudy film on the upper half of the glass. I tried vinegar, even a razor blade. The razor could clear tiny sections but would have taken hours to cover the entire surface (a double-sided fireplace). Also, areas that weren't cleared now appeared scratched as well as cloudy.
I researched online and found this specialty product that sounded like just the thing. Unfortunately, the local ACE didn't stock it, so I ordered it shipped to the store (free). I removed the glass and placed it on a table. The White Off seemed to remove the film entirely at first. However, when I held the glass upright, it was still visible. I reapplied the cleaner twice with no additional improvement. Can't say I'd recommend the product if it won't completely resolve the issue. There must be some type of solvent or industrial cleaner that could do the trick, but I give up. The cloudiness will just have to be a permanent "feature".

Comments about Rutland White Off Glass Cleaner (565):
Put a little on a paper towel and it took the burnt cooked on film off the glass door on our wood stove. This cleaner is of a creme consistency, and leaves no messy oily film. Very easy to use. I even used it on the drip pans on my kitchen stove that had baked on grease and food and they look brand new now. I've tried many glass cleaners for our wood stove and Rutland's is THE BEST.

I use it to clean the ceramic glass on wood fireplace.
Takes a little elbow grease, but does a good job.
Best bet is to burn dry wood that does smoke up the glass.

I bought this to remove the white film on my fireplace window. I followed the instructions to the letter. Then I did it again a day later. The same white film is still there. Didn't work for me at all.
