I read the other reviews. A couple of comments about them. Difficult assembly - from the other comments, I was expecting much worse. Perhaps some cheese with that "whine" would help. I did find a couple of burrs left in the bolt holes on two of the braces. I put the braces in my vise and one whack with a chisel took care of it. Wheels - mine are fine. Shipped with low pressure. Added a little air to firm them up. There may be a quality problem from several other comments. But what is the percentage? Low I expect from the number of complaints. Will Ace correct the problems? I suspect the answer is yes from the excellent customer service I have always received from them in the past.

This is the best wheelbarrow I have ever owned. It is rock solid and a little heavy. Not too heavy for me, but maybe for some. I think it is the perfect combination of strength versus weight. The dual wheels make it extremely stable. Every time I grab the handles to lift, I'm expecting to have to stabilize it. Not so. Nice anytime, wonderful with a heavy load.

I'm replacing the fences around my property. Never built fencing before. I'm enjoying it. I'm over 60 and retired. I really appreciate the stability of the dual wheels. I throw all my needed tools in the wheelbarrow for one trip to the worksite. Then I unload and go to the lumber stack and load up. I don't have to worry about overloading. During post installation, I was loading 80lb bags of concrete. I found 4 bags was as much as I wanted to lift and the wheelbarrow handled that easily and with stability.

I've got a dog that likes to stay near me. She is old and likes to ride. In the past, she has tried to jump in my old wheelbarrow. She always jumps out again, because it is so unstable. It is lighter weight and has one wheel. She jumped in this new one, she rode around to the back yard and I had to coax her to get out. Now that's a testimonial - my dog likes it.

I've had mine about a year now. It hauls dirt and a lot of firewood. It's a decent wheelbarrow. The dual wheels are VERY nice with heavy loads and uneven terrain. We use ours hard, and really appreciate the extra stability.

It's not all that sturdy. Certainly not contractor grade. I reinforced it by cuttting a piece of 5/8" OSB to fit between the tub and the handles, thus strengthening the whole assembly and especially the bottom. Tossing in chunks of firewood can beat it up pretty badly.

ASSEMBLY: I see some folks complaning about assembly. All I can say is, if you find this difficult, please stay away from power tools.

My wheels came assembled with the tires already on the rims, I assume by store personnel, and they pinched an innertube, so one wheel never held air very long. I patched it yesterday, as it had gotten too bad to get any work done. Next time I have a problem I'll get pre-Slimed tubes.

The web site lists a replacement "tire", and for some strange reason, they call it a "16x4 Replacement Tire". It's not a tire, it's a wheel. (The tire is just the rubber part. A wheel is a complete rim and tire assembly, which is what they seem to be selling.)

And it's not 16x4, it's a standard 4.80/4.00-8 tire (which has a 15.5" diameter). If you need an inner tube, that's the size you want. Try to find an angled valve, though. They are hard to find.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Steel Wheelbarrow:

I could have gone to my local Ace and bought one already assembled. When I was on the Ace site, I thought I saw it say "Check Availability" (Local store). The site went immediately to the order page, as if my local Ace didn't have any in stock...maybe your web-site is too confusing???? They must have had 6 wheel barrows easily already in stock and assembled.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Steel Wheelbarrow:

Purchased this item based on two wheels and the size of the tub. Overall, it is hard to assemble. The carriage bolts that hold the tub to the frame can be tricky. I duct taped the bolt heads to the inside of the tub. Check the tire pressure, my tires were very low, probably something to do with shipping. The rim on the outside of the tub was rusted. Guess it was stacked upside down and water was allowed to stand inside the rim. During my first use, I discovered the rubber hand grips slip off the steel handles. So I plan to use some gorilla glue and screws to make it permanent. If you can deal with these issues, it looks like a good wheelbarrow use for yard work, otherwise look for a two wheeled barrow with solid hardwood handles that is pre-assembled.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Steel Wheelbarrow:

Very difficult to assemble, required two people to line up things correctly! The handles slip off easily, but our local Ace gave us free glue to remedy this issue. The design is attractive, and it is a large wheelbarrow. The inside can scratch if you put in very heavy and large rocks. Overall, we are happy with it, and believe it will last for a while. Glad it has two wheels. It has worked well for the past two months, besides the issues I already mentioned.

I am a senior citizen and bought the two wheel wheelborrow for better stability on my hillside property. The first time I used the wheelborrow I was wheeling bags of mulch down a slope and the handle grips came off. If I had been hauling wet concrete, this could have been a disaster. The clerk at ACE recommended I use supper glue to fix the problem. After viewing comments from other people its obvious thit is a design defect. I hope ACE issues a recall and corrects this defect before someone gets hurt.

With the two wheels, pushing on rough or uneven surface, the wheelbarrow is very un-stable.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Steel Wheelbarrow:

The rubber tires are only rated to from 14*F to 140*F - i didn't check for this at the time of purchase - who would? let's just say it's fair to say the thing your selling in town works for the climate the town's in - not the case here. So, a year later the tires are cracked badly and, of course, the tubes are flat. Solution is to upgrade to non-pneumatic tires.

This wheelbarrow is amazing. It's good quality steel and durable. I have been using it to carry large chunks of concrete, mixed cement, very stable and easy to use. I made one modification to the wheel barrow which was to cut two 3/4 inch long 1/2 inch inside diameter spacers from a piece of grey electrical piping and used it as a spacer bushing before putting the wheels on so that there there would be no lateral movement of the wheels. I have used it extensively for three weeks now and no issues with the grip handles. This is an amazing price for this wheelbarrow. You will not regret this purchase. This wheelbarrow is the perfect size if you will be hauling heavy stuff such as gravel. If you get the bigger size it will probably be too heavy for one person going up a ramp or over obstacles.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Steel Wheelbarrow:

I am an avid do-it-yourself handyman. I know and use tools constantly. That being said, this is really a good quality homeowner's dual-wheel wheelbarrow, but It is not really a contractor quality tool. The tires are one limiting factor, the 9/16" axle is another. The 9-inch wheels are smaller than most wheelbarrows use, though the wheels and tires do measure 16 inches when inflated. There are ball bearings in the wheels which can be oiled, but no grease fittings. The metal in the body is a bit thinner than a contractor quality wheelbarrow would be. Even with all that, the average homeowner will find this to be a useful tool that will last for many years.

The tires carry a 210 pound maximum load rating at 30 psi. That leads to a realistic total of 400 pounds payload for this wheelbarrow. If limited to this payload, it should hold up fine to the demands of the average gardener, homeowner, or handyman.

I painted the inside of the metal body with rubberized truck bed coating before assembly, which should help resist rust and resist scratching for a long time. I put Slime in the tubes before inflating the tires, which should help resist flats. I oiled the bearings while I could lay the wheels on their sides, which helped the oil to penetrate. I used a polyurethane adhesive to glue the handgrips on, as other reviewers have suggested. I reinforced the press-in ball bearings in the wheels by using flat washers to take up any slack spacing on the axle. Finally, I assembled this wheelbarrow carefully, following the picture diagrams on the box and using the printed sheet inside the box. This was not too hard to do for any one who is accustomed to working with hand tools.

End result? a useful and durable tool for my collection.

Assembly can be difficult if done by one person. Hard to hold bolts in place if by yourself. Not a hard assembly just awkward for one person.

The grips will not stay on the handles. Be careful as you may find yourself holding the grips and your wheelbarrow rolling without you. This is a pretty obvious issue that should have been caught and corrected by ACE.

The thin steel of the bucket bent quite a bit when a somewhat heavy 2 foot long log was dropped in it.

Low front piece gets cought when you try to roll over a 4 by 4 or small landscaping timber.
Hand grips fall off. Drill a hole through the steel and put in a flat sheet metal screw to keep them from sliding off.

My wife is not afraid to use it. Two wheels on the front make it a dream for heavy and light loads you don't have to balance at all.

Picked it up Tuesday, assembled it, a bother but not that bad. Started using it immediately. I like it except for the handles. First load the rubber grips slipped off the metal handle. Good thing it was two wheeled or it would have turned over. I have used Gorilla glue to fasten them on, will see if that works. Ace, you need to do something about that problem. I am sure it is not an isolated thing.

Many people posted that it was hard to assemble.... Yes, it is a little interesting putting the long bolts through the tray, the wood blocks and then the tube, but not really difficult. I found that putting a piece of tape on the inside of the tray over the head of the bolt helps to hold it in while putting the nut on the other end.

This wheel barrow worked well this weekend to move mortar around for my large bricking project. It is nice and stable even with mortar sloping around. The tray is deeper than the low end wheel barrows, so that helped with keeping the mortar in the tray.

I wish I had bought this at the store rather than online as it would have saved me the time to put it together. Regardless, it didn't take that long and it was an entertaining project....

First it is a bit of a pain to assemble. That said it took about an hours. First thing is to look over the instructions, sparse though they are. You do need half inch socket or box end wrench. Saw horses are a big help. Lay the parts out and look at the diagram. Then you see that the assembly is not that hard. Just a bother without three hands in a couple of places. When done looks to be a sturdy well made wheelbarrow. From order to pickup, a week. All good for me. By far the best for the buck that I have seen.

The wheelbarrow came assembled so that was great. My only problem came when I tried to pull it instead of pushing it. The grips that slip on the end of the handles came off in my hands and the wheelbarrow went where gravity took it.
I used some good glue and let it sit for a day and that seems to have done the trick. Too bad it couldn't have come with the handles attached better to start with.
