Just purchased two of these animal entry cans constructed to resist animal entry. Raccoons bit through lids within a week, with garbage strewn about each morning. Plastic is too thin. Closures are on only two sides. Generally speaking, cans do not meet advertised function.
As yet, I am not aware of any properly constructed animal proof cans on the market.

Have been looking for a way to stop raccoons scattering our garbage. Unsuccessfully tried bungee cords, Dave's Insanity sauce, other cans. This looked like a good idea at a reasonable price. Two days after purchase, the first time the can was opened by the garbage collectors, one of the rubber straps broke, rendering it worthless.

I purchased this trash can having owned Rubbermaid cans before. I chose the model with the animal guard because we have many raccoons in our area. The plastic handle (not the animal guard feature) cracked after less than a year. Now I am forced to improvise a handle unless Rubbermaid can supply me with a replacement handle.

While the container is durable, the handle material is prone to breakage within a short time by garbage haulers. I've now experienced broken handles on two units in as many months, three in one year. Upon inspection, the texture of the handle material presents an un-reenforced plastic consisting of a "snapped" breakage on horizonal handle or the upright/corner surface. Both ends remains attached to can, but do not take a splint repair. Unlikely my garbage guy has any grudge, just this can's handles break due to poorly applied material science. The rest of the can is as advertised and light and secure. Needs metal handles or ones made of multi-ply nylon, IMHO.
