I am writing today to comment on assembly. The composter was very easy to assemble. The directions were straight forward and easy to follow. I have one complaint through: the latches for the lids were very difficult to insert, in fact, my hand was so sore from inserting the first latch that I was unable to endure it for the second latch, so I collared my son and now he has a sore hand also. There is no reason that the latches could not have been installed at the factory, which is what I would recommend.

I see little point in the agitators on the axle bar. I do not think that I will be use them once the drum is half full, besides tumbling should agitate the compost sufficiently. I can see that tumbling will be an issue because I do not see a way to keep the tumbling lock open while tumbling, so it will require a second person to keep the lock open while I turn the drum. There needs to be a way to open the lock and leave it open until the tumbling is completed.

I am looking forward to my first batch of compost and if this works as well as I hope it will I will be buying two more.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

We just filled the new composter so we can't answer some of the questions yet. We were surprised that there is an aerator/separator inside the composter so not only does turning aerate it but inside it is constantly separated.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

I originally bought this composter becaue after using a traditional compost pile that got smelly (I was too lazy to turn the pile, not to mention the allergens that went airborn if I did disturb the pile). I have had no smell problems with this composter and it is easy enough for me to turn. That said once it starts filling up it could get pretty heavy to turn if you don't have some muscle strength. I gave this product 4 stars because yes it is not industrial strength. That said I would give it 5 stars based on value for the price which is by far the lowest for a tubling composter. I have been using it for three years (in a mild climate) and nothing has broken. That said there are a few caveats in how I use it. One, the lock clips can be very hard to slide. However lids seems to lock on pretty tight without using them so I set the lock clips on one end and leave them set and only use the other end to fill the composter and do not set the lock clips on this end (This is in contradiction to the instructions and you might end up with a pile of compost on the ground when tumbling the bin but I have not had this problem yet). I also don't bother with locking the tumbler to prevent it from tumbling. Two, branches and tougher materials don't break down (probably because mine never gets very hot) so I only put fruit and vegetable scraps and leaves in the compost bin. Three, put some red worms (used for worm comosting) in the bin if your bin does not get hot inside and you are in a mild climate (The worms do best around 70-80F, can survive 30-100F or so). The worms will help break things down and provide worm casings which will improve the compost. Four, you may need to protect it from rain. I find that rain gets in vent holes and can waterlog the compost, slowing composting and making a mushy mess.

I did buy this product at ACE and had it shipped to store which is a great deal (free shipping!). It doesn't say verified purchace because I didn't create an account when I bought it.

Takes muscle to open and spin

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

It is good that it spins and is up off the ground.
I would not recommend for a woman to use as it is difficult to open and when just 1/4-1/3 full almost impossible to spin as it gets too heavy.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

I have gone through 4 bolts that hold the barrel onto
the frame. The first was before it even was out of my
    truck.

I replaced them with case hardened steel bolts that still
shear off. Empty or full, it seems not to matter.

    Very disappointed.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

The materials are not holding up as I expected. Specifically, the bolts that hold the tumbler on the stand have rusted and broken, one of the lids has bowed out, and now the tumbler leaks. The item is less than two years old!! For the money, I expected something of a much better quality. Now I have to start looking for another solution.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

I noted an earlier review mentions it is difficult to turn when full. This is true but you should remember you are turning 60 lbs which means it is a good capacity composter. A stationary composter is more difficult because you have to turn it with a shovel or pitch fork. Turning frequently keeps the compost material aerated and speeds the process.

Comments about Suncast® Tumbling Composter (TCB6800):

The design of the barrel makes it difficult to assemble, very hard to tighten the carriage bolts since the lip is so tight at the seam. I know it saves space in packaging to have the barrel assemble in 2 parts, but its worth the extra money to buy a single barrel. Also, we've had it only 3 weeks and one of the carriage bolts at the turning gear has already sheared in half. Guessing it's designed to do that so the barrel itself does not break, but seems that 3 weeks is very quick for that to happen. We can still use it, just need to be careful not to knock the barrel out of place.

I love this composter. It is easy to turn, open, add to, and remove from. I have a bad back and my husband got this so I could compost for my garden. It makes the compost fast, in about a month. I open it and tip it to remove the compost. The smaller you chop up your garden refuse, the faster it works. Well worth the money. I got a second one I love it so much. While one is working, I use the second one. Attractive too. It was not so easy to assemble but worth it in the long run.
