I puchased this hibatchi to feed my small crew at the fire station using real charcoal rather than using our worn out gas grill. I wanted a quick clean-up and quick lighting. I remembered my dad feeding his family of 6 on a small hibatchi when they were cool back in the 70's and began searching for a cast iron version like he had. Not too many choices since they are now made with thin sheet metal or are really expensive. This one is reasonably priced and fairly well made. I assembled the grill at my house and tried it out at home by loading it with 4 small steaks, three small corn on the cob, a foil pack of veggies and two baked potatoes. I liked the fact I could get the steaks closer to the coals and the veggies higher on the other grid surface. Everything cooked up at about the same time except the potatoes which I started earlier by placing them directly on the coals. I repeated the same menu at the firehouse and the crew was satisfied. Before I cooked food on it I oiled every surface and got a good hot fire going in it. I hit all the surfaces with Pam after every use and store it inside. If the other shifts take good care of it I expect it to last a few years. I am going to order one to use at my house even though I have a gas grill and a big Weber charcoal smoker.

I can remember using a small Hibachi in the 1950's when I was growing up to cook a couple of T-bones for my Mom, Brother, and myself. It was quick and easy, and the Hibachi did not have the useless grill rack that is NEVER USED, the charcoal grate ACTUALLY FIT, and did not try to fall into the bottom of the unit, and I did not have to retrofit the grills to ACTUALLY sit at the correct height for grilling, which is just above the top of the grill lip, NOT the first notch on the rack! There was NO design effort was put into this grill.

Comments about Marsh Allen Cast Iron Hibachi Charcoal Grill (30052):

I set up the grill for a dry run with charcoal briquettes and let it heat up. Very soon there was a strong smell of burning paint. Removed (and threw away) the two painted steel grates that came with the grill thus solving the burning paint issue. Other than that the grill is fine. But the manufacturer should be able to do better than to ship components not suited to the task.

The grill was easy to put together and is ideal for a small condo patio. I cooked a rib eye steak last night. It turned out great. The grill seared very well and cooked the meal quickly. I found that putting more charcoal on one side of the grill allowed me to move the steak around so that it would not flare up on me. I am very happy with this purchase.

It's small portable and once you get the coal hot enough it's good for a nice long stretch to cook for a decent size group. Not the easiest to get lit but considering the conditions i was in i'm sure with a lil more wind blockage it light quite easily. Good lil grill for the price.

I like it enough that I went back and bought two more.
Not as nice as the one I had in college, but nothing is any more.
Good qaulity castings with holes that line up with mating components.
worst thing is probably that the handles are a bit flimsy.
Ive cooked with it several times already.

Owned a Hibachi grill back in the 70's and loved it then. This grill lights quickly, heats evenly and cooks efficiently. Its also great to take to the lake, or anywhere else you wish to grill out. AND, one gallon of water will cool it for packing it up and bringing it home safely.

I use this item for grilling meats and veggies and it works
very well for individuals and couples.I am a charcoal bbqer and appreciate the flavor much more than using a gas bbq. I have been using the Hibachi much more than my Weber because
the Hibachi uses less charcoal and has a better concentration of heat. Other than the poor casting of the thickness of each grill, whcih makes one grill sit higher than the other when cradled, I'm pleased with the product.

Comments about Marsh Allen Cast Iron Hibachi Charcoal Grill (30052):

I am not a big BBQer but it is fun occasionally, and there is only one of me and sometimes a friend, so this is all I need, plus I have a small area. I had one years ago. It was easy to assemble, it took less than an hour. I used it and it was great. Shipping to my Ace was fast.

Great grill, only problem is the two grilling surfaces don't line up with each other when you put them in the rack. Tried adjusting them but no adjustment will work. Still a great little grill.

We use a "chimney" to start our charcoal, then remove the cylinder, spread the coals and cooking starts in 15 min! The design keeps the coals hot until after we've eaten our main meal; then we roast marshmellows for desert...yum, yum. Our last hibachi lasted over 20 years. Looking forward to 20 with this new grill.

Comments about Marsh Allen Cast Iron Hibachi Charcoal Grill (30052):

This product is much more durable than the stainless steel model. It offers good stability for the product, so there isn't much concern about having accidental charcoal knocked out of the grill. The ability to move the height of the grill grates is very useful for thing that don't need to cook close to the flame.

Uses less charcoal than a standard grill, so it will burn out a bit faster, which is good when you are using this away from home.

I recommend this item for one or two people who want to really have that outdoor smoky flavor. It of course uses charcoal and I recommend the cheapest you can get (Mine is Hy-Top) and lighter fluid. Letting the coals get nice and grey which takes about 20 to 30 minutes, then put on the meat. Even cooks vegies in foil in about 20 minutes, with butter, salt and pepper....yum. We liked it for the price and how quick it is to set up. thanks.
