My 30 year old model got lost in the move to a new home so I purchased this replacement. The design of this new item is poor. The plastic box is OK but the diverter door lever is weak and will probably soon break off. The hose clamps consist of 2 thin nylon zip ties...a poor substitute for a real clamp. The screen bracket mount merely snaps onto the box and is not in a secure slide track like the old model. I am very disappointed. This item is going back for a refund.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Dryer Heat Diverter:

It does what it's supposed to. When we use it in the dead of winter, our house stays at least two degrees above the thermostat setting which means the heat pump never has to kick on on those days. You already derive value from the heat your dryer produces by having your clothes dried, and this device lets you derive value from it twice by letting your dryer heat the house as well (three times if you count the humidification). Economically and environmentally, it cuts back on waste by not requiring redundant energy use by generating heat to dry your clothes and then separately generating heat to warm your house. However, unless you are bold and want to risk taking a knife to your duct hose and have your own end-crimping kit, you will need to by a separate duct hose to install it properly. Some people wish it had a mounting bracket, but my set-up is such that I don't feel it lacking. I just wish it had a snap or pin you could secure to lock the flap in the closed position, possibly with a gasket to boot, but that's minor. It more than pays for itself after just a couple of uses. Also, I paid attention to other reviews that recommended buying hose clamps as this unit just comes with zip ties-- sound advice.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Dryer Heat Diverter:

Installed this product on top of my dryer exhaust hose and instantly felt the heat from my dryer. Definitely helps heat the room and add additional humidity in the house that my woodstove takes out. Love it!
Only disappointing part, kind of flimsy but for under 10.00, can't really complain especially how much it helps. Would have like to see it with mounting brackets or something that way my hose isn't holding it up.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Dryer Heat Diverter:

Installed directly to the wall above the dryer. Works great! I had previously used a floor model that utilized water to trap lint. This model has a built in lint trap/filter that is 100% effective. Unit allows moist heat to reenter the house instead of warming the great outdoors. My utility room is in the basement so the heat helps warm the upper level floors. I experience a significant reduction in furnace run-time. My reason for purchasing was the ability to switch from inside to outside venting without dismantling the unit. I just flip the lever. For mounting, I used drywall screws and secured the unit directly to the wall; solid and secure. Installed in less than 10 minutes. The pleasant, fresh, clean smell of laundry is an added bonus.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Dryer Heat Diverter:

We had one for a few years and it literally fell apart. Kept it together with duct tape for a while, but then the filter screen frame kept blowing off. The frame design could be better, but as far as blowing the warm dryer air into the house, it does the job. There are other designs that use a nylon stocking. We've tried them and I liked this one better.

Just installed and its august so no need for it yet. Easy to install.

I was tired of venting all the heat from the dryer outside in the winter and this seemed like a good green way to reuse the dryer heat. I think it will work well but doesn't seem to be the most sturdy of items.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Dryer Heat Diverter:

I used this product to recycle the lost heat from my clothes dryer and put the hot air back into my home. I made an inline box to hold a hepa filter so as to remove all lint from the air. The vent temp coming back into the laundry room is 105 degrees F. While it isn't a huge volume of heat coming into the house, it is still better to capture it than to just throw it up and out the top of my home. If you do your laundry once a week and for several hours at a time, you will end up with a lot of moisture on the inside of your windows. But if you spread out your laundry loads throughout the week, no moisture is noticed. One thing to remember though is that this item is only intended to be used with electric dryers. Gas dryers produce CO. If you breath too much CO it can kill you, or make you really sick.

I've been using this Heat Diverter for about 10 years. My dryer is in the basement and I like keeping the heat from dryer in the house. I clean the screen every time that I clean the dryer lint trap and it still does blow some dust/lint into the room, but keeping the heat and humidity from the dryer in the house on cold winter days is worth the extra little bit of trouble. When spring and fall come around, you just flip the lever to either vent the dryer outside or inside.

If your plan is to use this with a gas dryer, please don't. Exhaust from the burned natural gas is vented through this would be similar to piping your car exhaust into your house.

This diverts the warm, moist air from the dryer into the home. It works well in the winter to replace the moisture in the air. It is easy to clean the extra lint it catches. There is some escape of warm air but basically it works well. I could not find them in stores in the south and ordered on the internet. It was easily available in the northeast.

I try to be energy efficient. But as another reviewer said, it is cheap built. The plastic clamps will not hold the hoses on. What is so bad, where the hose slides onto, it is tapered and has no ridge in which to hold the hose. Poor design. Also, the valve does not completly shut off air to outside, so you will not get 100% heat return to house, again, poor design. I will go back to what I used for years, a panty hose works much better.

I use this device to add supplimental heat to my house. It heated the entire downstairs of my 3000 sq ft house the other day while we were running the laundry. :) My heat pump cant even do that! LOL I really like this thing and I think it is a brilliant idea. Would recommend to anyone with a cold house.

Once you've pumped warm, moist, dryer-sheet scented air into your home, you can't help but look forward to having a full load of laundry to warm your home. I own one of these and I've purchased two of them as presents for family and friends. We've found that they work best when a box fan is placed in front of them to direct the warm, moist air to circulate through the rest of the house. It makes being energy-efficient pleasant!

This item is going back for a refund.

this product is fine i suppose to hang if your dryer is downstairs and cents out above it. Using it with a stackable washer/dryer however, it is upside down and is not designed to be mounted in any other way. I had wanted to use this product in the winter when it gets cold and our humidity is sitting around 20-28, but in my situation its a pain, i finally had to create my own bracket set in order to place it sideways on the wall, upside down and the small screen kept falling off.

I've had this in every home I've lived in. Helps save some heat during cold Wisconsin winters. Why not keep the heat you are paying for running the dryer! Easy to install - may need to retape/reclamp due to moisture making the tape come loose. Clean the screen after every load to keep lint down in the laundry area.

This item was on the dryer in a house I bought a few years back. I love the free heat and humidity it adds to my home in the colder months. The small screen needs cleaned between loads but its very quick and easy to do. I highly recomend this product for any cold weather climate.

I live in Colorado where the humidity it returns to the house is appreciated. I only use my dryer in the winter months, hanging clothes outside in warm weather. I like using it, but it does put a small amount of lint dust into the laundry room. I looked it up online to be able to buy a new unit for the new house we are building.
