This is the second clothes line I have bought. (I bought my first in 1981 and it just broke away from the wall) When I think of how much I have saved and have enjoyed the fresh smell of clothes on the line as well as being "green" it makes my heart sing. Well worth it. I use it several times a week. I use my dryer maybe three times a year. Can't say enough good things about it!!

The bracket on mine finally broke off after only a few years of continuous use. The unit itself is of ok construction, with plastic covered wires and a metal housing, but if the entire thing depends on one flimsy piece of plastic, I'm suprised it's lasted this long. Even so, I'll be finding another way to bolt it to the wall to continue using it, since it is still one of the more efficient clotheslines I've had. Not lightweight.

Years ago I bought one of these because my Grandmother had one similar and I wanted to replace a permanently installed clothesline. It runs from my deck railing to the fence, and tucks out of the way under the deck railing when not in use. I just purchased another for my daughter as a Mother's Day present and was glad to find the same one is still made and sold. It has held up well with many years of regular use 8 months of the year for many years and still going strong!

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
I wanted a retractable clothesline for use in my basement so I could hang clothes in the basement during the winter and rainy days. The locking system that makes the clothes line lock in to place broke after a week. There is a button on the side of the product that stops the line releasing any further line or pulling any more line it. I did not hang anything heavy on the line that would have added strain to the line. I had a couple pairs of jeans and a 4 tshirts. The button snapped off and the weight of the clothes pulled more line out. I had to go to the hardware store to buy a wrench type clamp that I used on the other side of the line to stop the gears from releasing more line. It's very frustrating because sometimes the clamp falls off and then I've got a clothesline full of clothes on the floor. So I decided to take it apart to see if I can fix it. It is plastic and there is no way to fix it...I was hoping to see if I could find a replacement part. Then I saw this opportunity to enter my opinions. On a postive note, I have another one like this outside that has been outside for years and has never broken, but I think that product is all all metal. My recomendation would be to make sure you do not buy one with plastic parts or you may hang up all your clothes and then find them all on the floor. In my opinion, this is an expensive item that should not be made of plastic. I'll come back and let you know if I find a plastic replacement part.

This is my fourth Sunline clothesline. First one was of great quality, as I bought more the quality was not as good. The lines sag and you cannot hang clothes on all the lines for this reason. I love the fact that I have fresh smelling clothes, I am just sorry the quality has gotten so cheap.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
I prefer the smell and feel of clothes that air outdoors, what can I say? Basically It was installed so that I could hang my towel and clothes after going to the gym and occasionally a towel after using the hot tub. We bought this less than a year ago at my local hardware store and it has fallen short of my expectations. Initially the tension knob failed, but a friend came up with a temporary solution. Then one by one the lines began to fray, then snap. Guess its back to the hardware store to buy a better quality line! Not at all what I expected…

Easy to set up, and gives you a lot of drying space. The lines do stretch/sag a little with heavy articles like bedding, but they can be tightened individually if needed. Overall a great product so far.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
It worked great for two years, but the tension knob is a small piece of plastic with a tiny thin spring -- and it easily breaks. There is no way to fix it, no replacement part available and no customer support. You take your chances buying this. It's a lot of money down the drain if the part breaks and there are numerous reviews of this cheap knob breaking on other web sites. Wish a reputable US manufacturer would make a similar product as it would be wonderful if built to last more than a season or two.

The plastic tensioning knob broke where it connects to the take-up drum. Now the drum jams against the aluminum cover, rendering the unit all but useless.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
Use 2 times a week. Sometimes does not roll back into casing evenly but that's okey. Made clothes props out of furring strips by cutting notch into wood & then painting with a good enamel paint. This helps shore up lines since tension isn't exact on all lines once you have to fix a line that might break. Holds up well even in our unpredictable windy weather. Love the smell of sunshine in my clothes. Would definitely recommend to others.

I have had the type of clothesline for over 20 years and it still works great. The line is going to need to be replaced, but if you take care of it, it will last you many years and a big savings by drying your clothes and household items in the fresh air...I have recommended this item to everyone I know.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
We have used the same unit for over twenty five years. I liked it so much we took it with us when we moved. It stays outside all year long in our New England weather. Over the years I had to replace some broken lines, but this is not a very hard task. Yes, it does not always retract evenly on the first try, but with a little patience, it all tucks away. Perhaps the manufacturer could provide individual dividers on the drum to accomplish a more even retraction. I am surprised the tensioner has held up so long. It provides a lot of drying space and does just what we want, retracts, out of sight when we want it.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
This works pretty well for us, and I'm sure it's paid for itself in energy savings in one summer. I wish that the quality of the retraction mechanism was a little better, but what do you expect for only [$]!? We use it at least once a week in the summer, and, after one year of use, it's still working well. Getting all 5 of the lines to have exactly the same tension / length isn't quite possible, so it's still not aesthetically perfect, but it's quite functional. If the retraction mechanism (spring?) was a little more robust, and the lines were more easily adjusted, I'd give this product 5 stars. Considering that it's only about [$], it's pretty darn good, so I'm going with 4 stars.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
This is not what it pretends to be, the tension is undependable, and after only about 10 uses, the cord has broken leaving me short 2 lines with additional tension problems on the remaining lines.

Comments about BUTTS Sunline® Retractable Clothes Dryer (15-7):
For the limited space its in this thing is perfect. And with todays electric prices (we live in Hawaii, highest electricity costs in the US) it can save some real money. In our case we're off grid and running a dryer is too energy intensive. My in laws also used one for 30+ years in NJ in a basement, and it worked fine there as well.

I hate this thing. Nothing but headaches. The lines never keep the right tension. It doesn't roll up well at all. And when the heat of the day comes, the lines get droopy and there is my wash on the ground! Ripped it off the walll today. Done.
