I rent a vintage 2 bedroom apartment in Evanston, IL and the building's windows have not been replaced. Some of the old windows have storm windows installed on the outside, but not all. When it first dropped below freezing this winter, I quickly realized I would need something to seal the cracks around my windows. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money since I'm only renting, but I wanted the most effective temporary seal for the money (after all, I'm going to want to open them when the temps rise to 90+ in the summer). This 90ft. roll of rope caulk for only [$], was the perfect solution. I sealed every single window in my place using one roll, and now I run my heaters less, but have a warmer apartment. The [$] I spent on this stuff, and the few hours (10 minutes per window) I spent sealing the windows saved me hundreds in heating bills this year.

This product is terrible. It will not stick like most manufacturer's rope caulk. It says right on the box, keep in a closed container, and yet when you open the box, it has 2 six inch sheets of plastic draped over it, which totally exposes the entire roll to the air. Consequently it is dry and will not properly stick. DO NOT BUY!

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace Rope Caulk Weatherstrip:

I'm using this to fill gaps between my windows and their frames. I got this one because it comes in white, which looks a lot better than the gray Mortite I have. However, it is not as pliable or sticky as the Mortite, and some has fallen down and needed to be reapplied. I'm continuing to use it, because of the color, but it's frustrating that it's not pliable enough.

I have used this product with success in the past. However, I ordered this online and when the package arrived all four rolls of the rope caulk were completely dried out and inflexible, so totally useless.

My family has used this product under a different name for 50+ years. As a little girl my mother would seal the windows for the winter so no drafts. Married my husband and have a condo with room air conditioners. Our first year back in 1985 I mentioned this stuff to seal around the A/C and he never heard of it. He has since a convert and loves it.It is so easy to use and does a great job to seal all the small openings around a window A/C.

This product seals drafts, esp. in old one pane windows. use it in winter for warmth and summer to keep cooled air in. I like that I can remove it in spring and fall to open windows for fresh air and then reapply for the other seasons.

I own a motorhome and won't leave home without it. It's ideal for making temporary or permanent repairs around leaky windows, vents and roofs. This is one of the few products that will stick to rubber roofs. It's also a great waterproof gasket material. I also use it around the house and on my boat for miscellaneous patching, sealing, and repairing. If the weather is real cold I soften it up a little in the microwave to make application a lot easier.
