I will not use the brands of laundry detergents which can be bad for the environment and people's health, so I make a homemade mixture using the washing soda along with the borax, baking soda, and Oxiclean to go along with a 'green' laundry soap to give it a boost in getting the laundry super clean. To help to get out the additional stains that have set in the clothing and other items, I will use a 'green' spray mixture to spray on and leave on for awhile before washing. My next goal is to try using a castile soap bar to grate and to use with the homemade mixture. I like having a variety of choices of using different 'green' soaps that mainly uses coconut oil soap base available to me to be able to alternate as I feel like it.

Found a make your own laundry detergent recipe on line and wanted to give it a try. I was having a difficult time finding the exact detergent I prefer at any well known store. Whenever I tried to switch detergents my family started feeling itchy.... So I opted to make my own. I am glad that it is also better for the environment too! I used old oxy clean plastic tubs to store the detergent in. I filled two containers with the mixture I made (I used the largest oxy clean containers). I am so grateful that Ace Hardware had this item in stock on line, at a great price too! I couldn't find washing soda in any of my local stores. The ship to my local Ace saved me money in shipping cost, many thanks to Ace!! I recommend using this product to make your own laundry detergent and cleaners.

I do mechanic work, so I wind up with engine oil in my clothes, on hand towels, etc. Throw half a cup of this stuff in with the laundry, and I can't even tell where the grease was.

Arm & Hammer Washing Soda is 100% Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash). This is the same product called pH plus for pools. 5 lbs of pH plus is $15 ($5/lb), Washing soda is less than $1.50/lb for the same product. The lower price for an equivalent product is hard to beat.

A&H Washing Soda is one of two primary ingredients for home made laundry detergent (Borax and bar soap are the remaining ingredients).

This product is difficult to find in my area so I searched for it online.

Ace provides a free ship-to-store option, which is great because the product is heavy and shipping costs ordinarily double the price. Shipping turnaround was very quick in my experience. I assume the store receives a delivery only once a week, so it may have been the luck of timing, ordering on a Friday and getting a phone call to pick up my item on Tuesday.

I use A&H Super Washing Soda for making my own laundry powder detergent. Mixed with borax, regular baking soda, and bar soap, it makes a great low-sudsing soap. I use less than 1/8 cup per load and it does fine.

I make my own laundry detergent and save a bundle. Using a mixture of Arm & Hammer washing soda, borax and Fels Naptha Laundry soap. It works great on all of my clothes but does really good on my sons greasey mechanics uniforms.

I use washable cotton dish towels for all but the absolute worst clean-up jobs. Cheaper than paper towels and more versatile. From detailing and waxing the cars to general kitchen clean-up, the towels usually wind up oily/ waxy/ greasy. Soaking the towels overnight in a bucket of warm water with a 1/2 cup of washing soda effectively loosens those stains to make washing those items VERY effective.

I use a front load washer (Siemens/ Bosch) on the warm/ cotton cycle (don't use hot water or you'll set the stains). I use either 2 Tbl regular Tide HE powder (pre-dissolve in hot water then add to wash), OR 2-3 Tbl shredded Fels-Naptha (pre-dissolve in hot water then add to wash), 1/2 cup Super Washing Soda, 1/3 cup white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. Then use the longest wash cycle (Power Wash + Extra Rinse). All but the most badly stained towels are perfectly cleaned. Those that are still stained get soaked again overnight but this time in a bucket with a gallon of cold tap water and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide mixed with dirty white socks then rewash.

Air dry NEVER heat dry those towels or whatever stains remain will set and never come out.
