Great for food storage and organization

I bought these canning jars in many sizes to put away food for long term storage. We have hurricanes and tornados and power outages in our area. It is better to put food away early than to hear of pending doom and then go get in long lines for beans that I didnt want. So I came up with a list of DRY foods that I could store in these jars, and I bought a foodsaver vacuum sealing attachment to fit the lid on these jars. So I can put away white rice,dry beans, cereals, pasta, candies, sugar, salt, coffee, tea, honey, powdered milk and more. You can label these jars with masking tape with a contents and expiration, and they can be stored in 5 gallon buckets with bubble wrap or extra towels incase of earthquakes. I just want to know that I have food to eat for about 3 months in the event of an emenrgency. But the stash has to hold without spoiling for 18 months or longer so I dont have to look at it but once a year, to change out a few things that may expire. It is a great system. Added security.
I also use these jars to warm food in the microwave as they have no plastic to leach into the food and are safe for cooking. The lids are metal and can NOT be used in the microwave. I use these quart size jars to organize my kitchen pantry. I can vacuum pack in the jar and label the jar with masking tape so I can see the big experation date, and the contents. I also have the new plastic lids that are for every day use and I use these for things like the coffee and cereal that I open and close every day. My cabinets are organized and I can see how much of everything I have, and things dont secretly expire. Bugs dont get in these jars like they do the boxes form the store. I feel all around safer with all my foods in glass jars.

I used these small jars to transport and serve chocolate pots de creme for dessert. It was beautiful and the guests kept their little jars. Perfect for this sort of thing. Also, having it shipped for free to a local Ace store was very convenient.

I made jam for the first time in these jars. They are nice and thick and none of them cracked (I used 4 cases of jars). The only thing is that for some reason the top of the jam tastes kind of rubbery from the rubber in the lids... Maybe it has something to do with my first-time canning rather than with the lid itself.

These 8-oz. jars with tightly fitting metal lids are great for storing dried herbs and ground spices that are bought in bulk. The wide mouth makes them easy to fill or to access the contents. The lids seal tightly. They are easy to wash and dry. My only reservation is that the replaceable metal lids are a bit flimsy and should be treated carefully to prevent warping or bending.

These mason jars are just like the ones they used to make back when I canned with my mother, grandmothers and aunts back on the farm. For quality canning, these can't be beat. Of course, I am now using them for a wedding with which to hang with a ribbon and put fresh cut flowers in for pew aisle markers...but the jars are the same!
