How to Prepare for a Hurricane?

Ready.gov offers a great resource for making a plan to help keep your family safe. After you have made a plan for your family it is time to start gathering your emergency hurricane supplies and assembling a hurricane kit.

Prepare your Family for a Hurricane

According to Ready.gov the following is a list of supplies needed for a hurricane emergency supply kit:

  • Water: It is recommended you have 1 gallon of water per person per day for a minimum of three days.
  • Food: Should be non-perishable items and it is recommended to plan for 3 days.
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio: You will want to have access to a radio to check current weather forecast updates.
  • Flashlight and extra batteries: You will need reliable flashlights and extra batteries incase power is lost.

A heavy-duty tarp can help prevent further destruction or rain from entering. Ace offers a variety of sizes and weights making it easy to find the one that best first your need.
  • Sand: Use sand to help build up barriers to help keep water out.
