Baell Mercantile Company was started by Tabitha and Jesse Baell in the small South West Georgia town of Attapulgus in 1923. In the 1930's they moved to the up and coming vibrant town of Moultrie to expand their market. In 1955 Jesse built a 18,000 sq ft retail store and an attached 12,000 sq ft warehouse which is the current location operated by their grandson, James R "Bo" Baell. The concept from the beginning was to have one store the farmer/businessman could purchase all they needed to run the farm or business while the wife could get everything she needed for the home. This diversity continues today with a popular local slogan "You can find it at Baell's".
