Create Color-Blocked Wall Frames

Add an ultra-modern touch to any room when you upcycle your old picture frames and transform them into on-trend accent pieces. Ace can help make this project easy with the paint, supplies and expert advice you need.

What You'll Need:

  • Clark+Kensington®
    interior paint
  • 1.5" angled paintbrush
  • Paint tray and liner
  • Paint stir stick
  • 150 grit sandpaper
  • Painter's tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Damp rag

The color blocks on each frame need to align with each other in order to create this look, so before you paint, position the white frames on a flat surface in the same pattern that you're going to hang them on the wall. Measure out the color block widths and mark them with a pencil, lining them up from frame to frame. When you're done, put tape on the outside of the pencil marks.

Next, lightly sand between the tape lines. Wipe away any dust with a damp rag, then use the angled brush to apply Clark+Kensington® Paint Dark Diversion 37B-7. Apply multiple coats, giving each coat time to dry before moving on to the next, to create a rich, vivid hue with an even finish.

Helpful Tip:

Remove the painter's tape before the paint has finished drying to create crisp, clean lines

Once the paint is dry, you'll have some eye-catching accessories that make a quick and easy update to any room. Best of all, it's simple to do yourself - all it takes is a little help from the experts at your local Ace!

If your home was built prior to 1978, check for lead-based paint before you sand or scrape any painting surfaces. Call 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead for more information.
