About Power Sanding 

The type of finish you achieve when sanding depends just as much on the sanding accessories used as it does on the type of sander you’re operating. Most power sanding sand paper is designed to fit the specific type of power sander being used. 

All sanding belts, discs and sheets are available in various “grits” – the lower the grit number, the coarser your finish will be. But, the way replacement sheets, belts and discs attach to their respective tools varies. 

Sanding discs typically attach with screws or come with adhesive on the back. You can quickly determine the type of replacement discs you’ll need by first inspecting your tool’s current attachment and then deciding how smooth of a finish you’re trying to achieve.

The type of replacement sanding belt you purchase also depends on the type of sander you have. Certain belt sanders require a belt by the same manufacturer while others accept less-expensive store brand versions as well. Be sure to read your manual and the sanding belt packaging to ensure you have the proper match.
