Delivering Holiday Cheer

For seniors who may not have a support network of family or friends to rely on, the holidays can be a particularly challenging and lonely time of year. Thankfully, the team at Allison's Ace Hardware in Lottsburg, VA, is there to visit and support members of the community.
Ira Allison, the founder of Allison's Ace Hardware, passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 1992. The loss of Ira left his widow Nancy and children wondering if they could support other senior members of the community who may have lost someone or just find themselves alone around the holidays.
"We like to go out and check on our seniors and shut-ins and carry them a little gift basket to see how they're doing," said Joey, Owner, Allison's Ace. "We visit them and sit with them and give them a little time. And we let them know we are here if they need anything. If dad could come back today and see this, he would have loved it."
Over 50 years, the team at Allison's Ace has seen over 2,500 seniors, shut-ins, and individuals in need. The gift baskets include books, puzzles, word searches, home essentials like soap and toothpaste, plus food items including canned hams.
"We wanted everybody to know that we are here to support them, we were here to provide service for them. We want them to know that we are here to help in any way we can," said Nancy, Owner, Allison's Ace.
"It's nice. Very nice. It's a pleasure to see them coming around," said Doris, a senior in the community.
For the team members at Allison's Ace, it's a great way to support members of the local community in need and feel good around the holidays.
"I get to see the letters and the cards when they come in," said Kaki, Ace Employee. "They're thanking us for having thought of them."
