The Flag Man

It's important to remember veterans and the service they gave to our country. For Jim Keown "The Flag Man" of Bowling Green, Kentucky, honoring veterans has become a routine that involves walking great distances with a U.S. Flag on his shoulder.
"I carry a flag to inspire people. I also carry a flag to honor veterans," said Jim.
Jim has been carrying flags around Bowling Green since 2021. He usually averages between 5-6 miles a day, and to he estimates he has covered over 5000 miles since he started. By the end of the first year, the flag started to get a little tattered. So Jim decided to present the flag to a local Vietnam veteran, John, who has since passed.
"John was so touched, I couldn't help from crying," said John's Widow Judy.
"To be able to show him that he was appreciated for his services, made me want to do it over and over again," said Jim. From that point, it became a tradition.
"I noticed him walking one day in town, so I reached out and asked him where he got his flags from. He purchased them from Ace Hardware!" said Tyler, Ace Regional Operations Specialist.
Since then, the local Ace Hardware has donated the flags that Jim carries around town and presents to veterans.
"I think most of the people that see Jim and know what he's about have a lot of respect for what he's doing." Said Matt, Ace Store Manager. "For me as a veteran, it does my heart good."
