In 1970, Herman and Grace Burggraf purchased Hanson's Hardware on the north side of Highway Two between Johnson and Kaiser Avenues. Herman became known as "Hardware Hank" and employed each of his six children when they were ready to assist with the many duties a hardware store demands. Building of a new store at the present location began in the fall of 1977, with moving days in February of 1978. For several years Burggraf's Hardware dealt with both United Hardware (as Hardware Hank) and with Ace Hardware Corporation, becoming an Ace Hardware dealer in about 1986. In 1988 Ace Hardware became the main supplier of inventory for Burggraf's Ace Hardware. Herman retired from the store as of December 31, 1993, selling his shares in the corporation to his sons, Craig, Mark and Steve. It was decided that Mark would manage the Fosston store beginning January 1, 1994.
